tulip Russia not looking so good now. 2-0 down already.

Mexico have surprised me most, great performance against Germany.
and England :o

Still think Spain are being overlooked by most.

That first Uruguay goal was hilarious.

I think the Russian defender may have had Suarez as first goalscorer....

Egypyt were abysmal and Russia were found out by a better opponent today.

Uruguay will be horrible for Portugal or Spain to play.

England my surprisingly good pick. Croatia the best so far... actually played a quality side.

France, Brazil and Germany looking worryingly average whilst still (probably) progressing. Possibly Spain too.

Lawrenson thinks Portugal shouldn't have had a penalty because Ronaldo wasn't in control of the ball when he got clattered. Why do the BBC employ him?

(I don't think it was a penalty either, but that's because Ronaldo was - as usual - already on his way down when the Iranian hit him).

They could use VAR for useful stuff like keepers coming off their line early on penalties.... Especially you would hope during penalty shootouts later on in the tournament.

Agreed on Lawro. But I thought it was a pen first time and on VAR
And Lawro made no mention of keeper off his line!
He's dreadful

Why Pique is on the pitch is a mystery to me. VAR should have picked up the clear two footed tackle

Yellow card?

For striking an opponent?

It was marginal but if he thinks he struck him surely it's a red?!

I'm not watching the match, but bloody hell you should have heard the noise when the goal just went in....no surprise that Morocco is more popular than Spain round these parts.

Glad Iran got it but how on earth was that a penalty? But on the bright side Uruguay now get to play Portugal.

Portugal Iran
Horrible couple of teams. Both diving faking injury and trying to con the ref at every turn and trying to get players booked or sent off.

VAR can definitely do one now, what an absolute shambles. Having said that I wouldn’t have complained if it had contributed to those whingeing pricks getting knocked out, terrible one man team

This world cup is rapidly becoming a joke. The refs and officials are shit, VAR has now ruined the game and turned it into some sort of bullshit Americanised sport, only FIFA could make f*ckups on such a monumental scale as this.
Please no var in this country.....just goal line technology and an extra official.

What a oxf*rd farce. Some of these refs are simply not ready for VAR. Shambles.

Not seen the incident, but possibly not bad enough to be violent conduct, but worthy of unsportsmanlike conduct - or it's something a long those lines anyway?

Caught a glance of the Ronaldo penalty shout, looked a pen to me. Handball was a soft one, hard to argue it was deliberate or his arm was in an unnatural position given the jump.

The Iran v Portugal game was the biggest advert for getting rid of VAR there could ever be. I'm glad it happened.
