I don't why the colour of the people is relevant? nobody was turned off by Asian hosts in 2002 were they? Also they've already managed to successfully hold a tournament in front of brown people :|

Will the show be exciting?

The pandemic has taken the edge off: expect a lower-key event than usual, with no national representatives. Daniele De Rossi and Rafael van der Vaart will pick the balls, Fifa’s acting director of competitions, Jaime Yarza, will host.

So thats a no then?

I'd rather a boring show, that starts at 5pm (as advertised) and doesn't take 3 hours to complete.

So England's group of 'death' (although we'd still expect to qualify easily) might include Sweden, Norway and Bulgaria.
Or we might get a group of Wales, Iceland, Luxembourg (somehow in Pot 4), Andorra, San Marino.

It's only really South America that is materially underway with qualifying, and for once Brazil and Argentina aren't fcuking it up early doors, Brazil have won 4of 4, with Argentina a couple of points behind them.

Sure, they are on a decent run, but they've had a few relatively easy fixtures. Going back to the start of 2018, they've got one win against a side ranked in the top 40 in the world (Slovakia), from ten matches played. That's their only such win since that 3-1 win over Belgium at the 2016 Euros.

Quite a few draws in there though. Unbeaten in competitive football for 18 months. I don’t think they are any weaker than the other second seeds.

Will wife beater Giggs be in charge by the time the group games get underway?

Who gets the job then? A return of Mark Hughes? Was a decent international manager imo.

Then there’s all the restrictions to take into account as well so this sort of thing won’t be over as easily as it should. For example Kosovo won’t be allowed to be in the same group as many other teams in the Balkans area, Spain and Gibraltar is probably a no no, I can’t see Turkey v Cyprus being too popular and no doubt, given the pandemic, FIFA/UEFA will be seeking to minimise travel for this round of qualification meaning at least England should avoid those nations from the Far East of the region (but presumably increases the chances of getting Wales and Scotland or one of the Irelands).

Apparently the balls are drawn a pot at a time and each nation is allocated alphabetically into each group subject to the “restrictions”. So I presume that means England will be in Group D?

Each of the 10 group winners will qualify automatically while the 10 group runners up (plus the two best-ranked but otherwise unqualified sides in the Nations League) will compete for the remaining 3 qualification places in March 2022.

And so cue a load of interminably pointless games against 3 or 4 poorer nations meaning, as usual, all England will effectively have to do to qualify is give a good account of themselves against the second seed in their group.

Oh for the days of something like 14 groups of 4 with only the winner progressing, so much simpler and so much more interesting.

I really don’t know. Page is currently overseeing things so for continuity he may stay in charge for the Euro Finals especially as the Giggs issues may run for a few months. Unless he does well there then I would expect a new manager for the WCQ’s. Hughes would be a backward step. No obvious Welsh candidates. They may go abroad.
