Any chance of a Wales v Scotland fixture in the play-offs? I have no idea how the draw works

Yes. Play-offs are different this time.

10 group runners up plus 2 Nations League winners who didn't finish in top 2.

3 sets of 4 drawn into separate competitions for one spot - so semi final and final. So if they are drawn in the same 4 team cup, they could play each other.

Dutch in danger of missing another WC.

2 up in Montenegro, concede 2 in 4 mins to draw.

If they lose to Norway, behind closed doors and Turkey beat Macedonia, they are out.

Yes it could happen and both are in a very similar position going into their final games. If you deduct the six points Scotland gained against the bottom team in their group they are on 14 points. So are Wales. They both have tough homes games to finish off. Both are on the edge of being in the top six seeds for home draws in the play offs. It’s very tight.

Indeed they threw it away in the last 10 minutes. :(
But they are home to Norway and Turkey are away to Montenegro so there is still a good chance of qualifying I'd say. Never make it easy for themselves.

Got to happen, as I recall there’s a bit of “tension” between them after their WC games for 1978 and 1986 and Wales owe Scotland after those.

Perfectly good goal for Lux disallowed at 0-0, then they folded.

Portugal miss out on automatic qualification in dramatic circumstances. Would find it pretty funny if they missed out, though having them in the play-off draw is bad news for Wales and Scotland

Potentially bad news. There will be three groups of four so a good chance we won’t be in the same play off group as them. If we draw tomorrow night and Scotland don’t beat Denmark then we will have a home draw in the semi final.

Not sure it is a bad time to play Portugal tbh, they look devoid of any real ideas or leadership right now. It is a similar situation to the one at United. If Ronaldo can get into the game and control it then they will win, keep him quiet and the over reliance on him really shows. Wales and Scotland have far better team ethics than Portugal and that could be enough to get them over the line.

Even if they're not playing well, a team with that much individual quality is one you'd want to avoid. You can be the better team all night and lose out to a moment of brilliance from Ronaldo, Fernandes, Silva or Felix.

I've nothing against the Dutch, but it would be a travesty if Erling Haaland was to miss another major tournament, so I hope Norway can somehow find a result. That 0-0 draw with Latvia could be costly though.

In Group D, if Ukraine draw in Bosnia (or potentially even with a win, if Finland avoid defeat at home to France), they'll have failed to qualify despite remaining unbeaten the group. Currently one win and six draws.

Finally on the play-offs, a lot has got to happen for it to come to pass, but I'd love to see Holland and Italy fighting it out in one of the finals, with the loser facing the prospect of missing consecutive World Cups.

It would be a great spectacle but I would rather they were both at the World Cup rather than makeweight dross such as Ukraine. That being said if you win your qualifying group then you go to the World Cup so they'd only have themselves to blame.

It’s one legged semi finals. The winners then play in a final. So only two games but obviously four teams involved.

This. It's part of fitting the best Nations League sides into the play-off setup.

2018 - UEFA had 54 teams in qualifying, nine groups of six teams, with the best eight second-placed sides competing for four play-off berths in the World Cup finals.

2022 - 55 teams, switch to ten groups, all group winners qualify, which means just three play-off spots, to be contested as semis and finals by three 'groups' made up of the ten runners-up plus two best Nations League sides who haven't secured a spot.

Algeria are hosting Burkina Faso in a tense World Cup qualifier right now. Algeria accused Burkina Faso of performing black magic on the pitch at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida. Algeria brought in an exorcist to remove the spell.
