Mr Angry I haven't watched every minute of every game, but it does seem to me that the following have occurred:

1. There have been a LOT of fould throws, none of which get called.
2. There have been either no, or virtually no, goals coming from a corner.
3. I don't think there has been a goal from a direct free kick yet

I will stand corrected on the last 2 if wrong.

Denmark’s goal today was from a corner

If it's the only one, that rather backs up my thought of "...either no, or virtually no....." goals from corners in what, 24 games so far?

xG is 0.03 for a corner so 24 of them is only 0.72, which tallies pretty well with actual goals

This philosophy, of course, taking us to a semi final and final after years and years of failures in major tournaments. How awful

There’s one.

I’m not particularly a Southgate apologist. It is undoubtedly a cautious and stifling way of playing

But he’s very much under appreciated for the work he’s done here. It is, after all, a results business and his record in major tournaments has been very good. And I’d also argue football would be dull if every team played the same style

Fully agree re Southgate. I have in the past always prefaced my negatives about him by saying I think he’s a great guy with integrity, honesty and moral standards and excellent man management skills.

I just think he’s lacks something even more important. The above standards are vital in management in any sphere but in football you also need to recognise what is happening on the pitch, and what will happen with all different combinations. I might be conveniently forgetting something but I can’t think of an occasion when his mid-game changes have actually made a positive difference.

I don’t think he’s got that quality and vision and hence will always fall short.

But I also acknowledge that he’s a football man and I’m not. But if we just let them all get on with it without expressing our views (because they know better - or damn well should do) it’d be a bit boring.

I also recognise that you are not criticising me for expressing mine! :D

Conservative_dad Henderson was absolute dogshit when he came on.

We all have our own opinion on that one
I am most certainly not a fan of Henderson, indeed I wouldn’t have had him in the squad, but in that game he made a marked difference

not really, swung in corners are very low percentage chance of scoring

I also realised I just read that as '24 corners' rather than games so the scoring is prolly low

Martinez making Southgate look like manager of the year. How has he made that team so much less than the sum of its parts.

Think they need some new blood, feels like they’ve been using Alderweireld and Vertonghen at the back for years now

Particularly odd playing De Bruyne out on the right

And - of course - the first goal of the tournament direct from free kick!

Not sure if I posted this on here or another portal but this tournament is giving me euros 2004 vibes. I think we might be due an unlikely champion. So maybe England wins?

True enough, had forgotten that.

Our local Moroccans are outside celebrating, big win for them.

They're too old and missed their chances 8 or even 10 years ago

Just shows what a complete fraud and average player Kevin de BROFLuyne is without world class players around him
