TBM tbh im glad we didn't get it.......theres something kind of exciting seeing a world cup in another country. We see Old trafford, Anfield, St James Park etc every week on TV.

There is an element of that to be fair Pulfers, but I would have quite liked one world cup in England in my lifetime

2030?

At least by then we may be good enough to win it

What makes you think we'll get in in 2030? Spain, Portugal, Holland etc will all be going for it again plus the likes of France, Germany and Italy as well probably.

FiNeRaIn should pull out of FIFA.

That'll be fun playing all the other non FIFA affiliated teams. The Vatican here we come!

Try hard to make sense of this post, whats the vatican got to do with anything?
.

Calm down to a panic m8.

If you pull out of FIFA you cannot play against FIFA affiliated teams. Vatican are one of the teams that takes part in the non FIFA affiliated tournaments. Maybe you would prefer the Island Games, we would probably still f*ck it up against Guernsey.

Bates is right, the top European countries should break away from FIFA - it'd make a mockery of the World Cup and hit FIFA where it hurts, the pocket.

True, but Russian & Qatar are both going to be utter bastards to attend.

Low end estimates are usually for around 500,000 fans travelling.

Qatar has 8500 hotel rooms in the whole country. Half are in 5 star hotels. Only 1500 are 3 star or lower.

"Utter bastard" doesn't tell half the story.

If Qatar can host a World Cup then its time for Wales to give it be a host nation. Its the only bloody way they would make the Finals.

Are the top European countries unhappy with FIFA then?

Only three of the 22 FIFA voting delegates bothered to look at the English 'technical report' and two of those, where so they could release them to their own bid teams.
Of the countries with the supposedly strongest technical bids, Australia got 1 vote, England 2 and USA 3. ShambLOLes.

Have just read Jeff Powell's article in the Mail,a paper and writer not renowned for Tory or Royal bashing and how refeshing compared with all the "we wuz robbed" rubbish, yes rubbish Maguire.
A few excerpts:-
The England project was fatally flawed from it's inception by the strategy of bragging that English football is the greatest.

Not until it was so late that the doomsday clock was chiming did it dawn on any of them that what FIFA really wanted was to bestow its greatest gift not upon the rich, smug and famous but on a region in need of those five-star football facilities.

Meanwhile,on went the FA,blundering down the road of arrogance towards a gauche display of celebrity and royalty, before which FIFA were expected to bend a craven knee.
It was ego which betrayed the nation, long before expose, and a growing suspicion that the figureheads of English sport are not to be trusted.
The roots of that unease stretch back to our bid for the 2006 World Cup finals when the FA reneged on a gentleman's agreement to give Germany a clear run in return for their support in bringing Euro 96 to this country.
England got barely a handful of votes then.Germany got the cup.

There is then a bit about Coe's Olympic promises not coming to fruition.

Yet into Zurich went David Cameron making promises of not only billions for an England World Cup but billions more to help FIFA spread the football gospel around the world.

England never had a chance yet they carried on spending lavishly.By the time they arrived in Zurich -bleating about the media-they were like a football team citing injuries and fatigue as their excuse in advance for losing.
Shame on them.

Incidentally listening to Talksport on the way home both Durham and listeners were talking of breaking away from FIFA and bringing back Home Countries internationals and taking Germany,France,Spain etc with them to form a new version of FIFA.
Once again the arrogance to believe that the Home Countries would join them once England clicked their fingers after ditching those countries when it suited them some years ago when the end of season competition was abandoned..
Also to think that they could carry the other top European countries with them is a massive and incredibly optimistic leap of faith.

I'd imagine Portugal and Spain are at the moment...and probably most of Europe when they move the tournament to September in Qatar.

Hoop Blah I think that sums it up TFF.

There were suggestions during the fall out last night that these 'risky' host nations, such as Brasil who are supposedly struggling to get things going for 2014, might lead to England being offered a late sub role for a future World Cup.

If that was the case, bearing in mind the way we've apparently been treated, would you, if you were all powerful and could say Yea Or Neigh to hosting as a repalcement, help FIFA out and take a World Cup or would you tell them where to go?

no tell them to get stuffed.....i dont want to have anything to do with them

Or look at it positively and hold that we're the babysitter. FIFA are willing to let everyone else have a go, but we're the ones trusted to pick up the pieces when it all goes wrong.

Or tell them to get f*cked forcing them out of office in disgrace before we then pick up the pieces once there's been a reform instead of bailing out these tossers.

I'm sorry this all is b*llocks.

We were happy enough to go along with the process because we thought we'd win. Now we're whining about corruption because w elost We sent out the f*cking PM for christ's sake to stick his tongue up these people (Doesn't he have better things to do? Stop the cuts in education sports spending maybe??)

Of course the FIFA bid process is corrupt. Any process that is based on taking the decision makers out for dinner (plus god knows what) is corrupt. But this is not unique to the World Cup bid.

Having the best "technical bid" and pre-built footballing infrastructure is utterly irrelevant if FIFA are looking to use the World Cup to develop the game in countries/regions where this isn't there already? We won the Olympics on the basis of investing in the future - the legacy. We can hardly whine can we?

Surely then, if that was the point of what FIFA are trying to do then they should only have invited bids from those countries where a legacy can be left? In this case, countries who haven't hosted before. It would have saved a lot of wasted time and money not just for us but for Spain/Portugal too.

If they are so fussed about transparency then it needs to be at all times, not just when it suits.

In previous World Cups, that was true for South Africa, what about Germany, France and Italy? Saying that now sounds like a convenient excuse to me.

Historically they have alternated, established European country to a developing country.
