PEARCEY Lets be honest. No-one thought London would win the Olympics. Did anyone complain about that vote being crooked? Did the French bang on about it? Nope.

Oh yes, they did.

PieEater
leon Having the best "technical bid" and pre-built footballing infrastructure is utterly irrelevant if FIFA are looking to use the World Cup to develop the game in countries/regions where this isn't there already?

In previous World Cups, that was true for South Africa, what about Germany, France and Italy? Saying that now sounds like a convenient excuse to me.

Historically they have alternated, established European country to a developing country.

The Russia bid does make some sense, really. It's massive, it will be rich, it has wealth. There was the slide showing that Eastern Europe has not had a World Cup.

Qatar is the mental one.

That said, there is the hint that they changed the goalposts but as someone said on R5 today/yesterday, we had 2 years to really campaign and compressed most of it into 2 days. That was the big mistake in the end.

leon apparently we promised to not bid the 2006 World Cup to let Germany go for it if they supported our 1996 European championship bid (successful)

Guess what? We bid the 2006 world cup. So anyway back to these backstabbing FIFA characters....

That's not an apparently. That's proper true facts.

PEARCEY
How many other nations have hosted the Olympics twice? Greece,USA,Germany......it may be 64 years by 2012 but it still puts England right up there with an elite who have been hosts more than once.

Thanks, Boris, this really helps our protests about the corrupt system. I don't know what's worse: the fact we were bribing these people with freebies, or the fact we've gone so petty about it now.

Mayor of London Boris Johnson cancels Fifa hotel stay

Boris Johnson has withdrawn the offer of a free stay in London's exclusive Dorchester hotel for Fifa executives during the 2012 Olympics. The Mayor of London had offered the free accommodation for Fifa president Sepp Blatter and his team.
But after Fifa's decision on Thursday's 2018 World Cup vote - which saw the England bid get just two votes out of a possible 22 - the offer was rescinded. (BBC)

Well done Boris (legend), I would've taken it a stage further, and alerted immigration/customs to ban them from entering this countries airports ever again.

Sky (and them expecting me to pay for what once was free to veiw within the confines of the TV Licence) can go f11ck themselves.

I stand alone when it comes to Sky....but cannot believe that folk are prepared to part with 5 or 6 hundred pounds per year to watch adverts and basically what once was free

I stopped paying for football and movies and only keep the basic package for the sake of the kids. Sky ran an awful advertising campaign a few months ago when,in effect, they were reducing coverage for people like you Athletico but trying to put a positive spin on it. Dreadful stuff.
I dislike Sky because of all the hype but its here to stay for good.

I stand with you on that one. Freeview more than does. I don't even miss soccer saturday any more. A flick of BBC1 at 16:30 does me.

yes radical thinking from Boris. Offer a bribe in exchange for a "favour" and when the "favour" isn't delivered refuse publically to pay the bribe. Well done Boris moral guardian, you bumbling sack of sh*t.
