What would your reaction have been if Man City had signed him, Kes?

Hoop Blah
No Fixed Abode Chelsea's 'panic' buying hardly broke the bank though......

What do you think was the point of the signing though Kes?

I can't work it out personally.

As with all signings, don't judge it until we see what happens............You're all vvanking yourself silly over the signing of Vydra - he could turn out to be a flop.....

Really, though? So if you'd signed Pavel Pogrebniak for £50m you wouldn't judge it to be a bit of a shit piece of business?

I'm just asking a question Kes, don't be so defensive.

With most signings I can read between the lines and second guess why it's been made. Taking Vydra as an example he's a proven goalscorer at our level and one thing we've lacked over the last couple of years is someone to put the ball in the back of the net, especially with a bit of pace. Vydra fits that bill and we've paid a quite a significant amount (for us) to get him without the long term financial implications that would normally go with it.

We've taken a punt on lots of cheap players with potential over the years because we don't have unlimited funds. They're usually on 2 or maybe 3 year contracts and low wages.

As TBM says, Hector just doesn't look like he's going to be at the level Chelsea are surely looking for and they've given him a 5 year deal.

I was just wondering why you think they did it.

TBM
RoyallyFcuked Can't believe ArsenaLOL didn't sign anyone?! I thought they needed a central defensive midfielder and a striker but same old story again.

Wenger really is a cretin

I can see both sides though

The fans want new players - the club won't "break the bank" to get just any old player....i'm sure they tried their main targets but either got turned away or turned down or put off by the fee quoted. I guess they will spend the next 5 months scouting for possible new targets in January.

Its better than panic buying like Chelsea did with Hector etc

True, but I don't always buy into "we tried to get these targets but couldn't get any of them" , I think sometimes clubs just say "we tried to sign this player" whether they did or not, just to keep fans happy. Even if they did try, was it a proper attempt or just one that they knew wasn't going to be accepted?

Arsenal remind me of a bigger version of us though and have done for some time, in terms of prudence and cautiousness etc in the transfer market I mean.

Another £4m spent on top of the £150m or so by a club who recently broke ffp rules.

That's a little bit rich coming from a supporter of a club that bought the title when RA came in, and sent football finances on the road to the ludicrous levels they are now.

As I say to my Man City supporting employee, I hope they kept the receipt.

Not sure what the rolly-eyes are for. FFP is an irrelevance as any highly-paid creative accountant seems to be able to work their way around them.

Your poacher-turned-gamekeeper facade doesn't hide the fact that you're just envious that someone else is copying your "business" model, with more on top.

I would rather Chelsea win the league than City, but that's only because I can't abide the way City are ruining football for the rest of us in a way far worse than Abramovich ever managed.

I guess the real issue here is - Hoop Blah is obviously a better manager than Mourinho.
