Sending Off

by The Real Sandhurst Royal » 13 May 2011 07:52

Watching the Forest v Swansea game last night with a player sent off in the first minute I was wondering what the record is for a sending off and are there any other sending offs people can remember in the first 5 minutes of the game?

If memory serves, Kevin Pressman of Sheff Weds got sent off in the first 60 seconds for deliberate handball (outside the box before any pedant points out he's a goalie).

Not sure if that's the record though.

Slight tangent but I know Vinnie Jones (whilst at Chelsea) got booked 3 seconds into a match

A player with English minor league club Chippenham Town has set a record for the fastest-red card in senior soccer when he was sent off for a wild tackle three seconds after kickoff.

Striker David Pratt, 21, was dismissed in a Southern Premier League game against Bashley on Saturday.

The previous fastest sending-off is generally accepted to be 10 seconds for Bologna's Giuseppe Lorenzo after he struck an opponent in a 1990 Italian league game.

English soccer's previous "best" was 13 seconds when Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Kevin Pressman handled outside his box in a game in 2000.

Also in 2000 an English amateur player, Lee Todd, was sent off after two seconds when he responded to the referee's whistle to start the game by saying "xxxx me, that was loud" and was dismissed for foul and abusive language.

At the mad stad I witness the quickest ever sending off of a substitutue, game v sheffield united, when the ball hadn't come back into play and Gillespie had walked.

Seem to remember Keith Gillespie getting sent off as he came on as a substitute. I think he hit SHunt or something. Same game as Wally vs Colin IIRC

What about Gillespie one for Sheff Utd at our place? Has to be the quickest one for a sub.

If Cardiff had had a player sent off in the game at The Madstad last night we would have seen a new record for the fastest overturning of a red card by the Welsh FA.

I shouldn't have joked about this. Swansea have appealed to the Welsh FA.

As Pearcey said, elbowed him in the face. Left the field with a straight red before play had restarted from him coming on.
