Bumper Book of Tactics

by The Prisoner » 27 Oct 2009 00:58

Whilst the rocket scientist may study the role of the gods in forsoothing another victory for the mighty royals in the face of adversity those in the know have nailed the source of the problem.

Buy/Loan/Steal two decent fooking strikers and never play Pearce again as long as ye shall live.

Amen.

Archie's penalty Post of the century. (although I quite like Church).

He'll get there I'm sure

Unfortunately we need someone to be scoring now. No time to experiment when you are drifting away at the foot of the table

Agree about the two strikers, but isn't Noel Hunt waiting in the wings somewhere?

I'd also give Dave Mooney a crack in the short term as he can't be any worse.

Noel Hunt isn't mobile enough and isn't going to be the 20+ a season striker we need (esp having just lost 3 of them).

Our strikers are either mobile and get in the right places or are slower intelligent players who (potentially) are good finishers. None of them are both and that is one major reason why we are in trouble. How many times did Church run intelligently and get into fantastic positions last night to show all the finishing composure of bambi on ice?

Certainly no argument to be made for not bringing players in.

I saw enough against Burton to think Mooney might have scored last night, if he had been available for the bench.

I think Rodgers's obsession with modern tactics has left him unable to see the wood for the trees. He has said that statistically we have been up with the best teams in the league except for shots on target. Unfortunately, it's shots on target that win games, mate. I doubt managers like Harry Redknapp bother with statistical analysis. He just buys lots of good attackers and creative midfielders and the rest takes care of itself.

By the way, we don't have to wait till the window to borrow a striker. Kudos to Sheffield United for bringing in Henri Camara, who's lethal on his day. GET A STRIKER NOW!

Agreed, but in the short term a 10 goal a season striker has got to be better than our current 0 goals per season strikers.

Hunt would have scored last night, that's for sure.

I have always had Hunt down as a player who makes up with effort what he lacks with skill. Don't get me wrong - there is a place for that and effort is what is needed to put this right, but it isn't a long term solution.

I would love to see £1m being spent on Simeon Jackson from Gillingham in January. We need a striker who has pace, intelligence and finishing skills! Our current strikers only possess one of these qualities each.

The Prisoner Noel Hunt isn't mobile enough

Can you explain what you mean by that?

Hunt's strength is his willingness and ability to jump, run and chase everything down. He's quick on his feet, gets up brilliant and wins lots in the air for someone of his size, and is pretty nimble with it.

In what way isn't he mobile?

I agree he isn't the answer and certainly isn't a 20 goal a season forward in this league. He's also got a bit of a long standing knee injury that I'm sure has been said will keep him out for another couple of months.

No, that mean's he's injured.

When fit he's mobile, he just isn't a lot else.
