No Fixed Abode He rescued Acadamia from relegation

:|

He took over in the October and moved them up 5 places by the end of the season. The season before that they finished 7th.

So they were in relegation trouble and he saved them?

Ah - there's the reason paid £13.5M for him then; that experience will come in handy next season......

Let's all listen to Mr Angry - saying AVB said he wanted Chelsea to play like Barca, where on Chelsea TV he never said anything of the sort.

Looking to be nothing more than a rumour, though - beautifully timed on the last day of "reduced" (in the loosest sense of the word) season ticket sales.

QPR must surely have sold out all season tickets weeks ago? Even at their silly prices.

There's always rumours about stuff like this but you don't see clubs releasing statements like this all the time. Just makes me wonder if there's some unrest behind the scenes and it's only a matter of time before Colin walks/gets pushed.

There is unrest - there was a boardroom split over the ticket price rises,
with the QPR vice-chairman Amit Bhatia (son-in-law of Lakshmi Mittal and Colin's main ally on the board) resigning over this pricing strategy, which is clearly the work of Briatore & Ecclestone. Briatori is a real control freak, who has previously taken to texting the manager during games, telling him what to do - the Mittals were the ones who largely prevented this level of control-freakery.

But this is a beautifully timed bit of rumour-mongering to sabotage ST sales on the last day for renewals. It also proves just how easy it is to start rumours these days now there's Twitter and so on and journos are desperate for summer stories.

I just can't believe that that club hasn't already sold out their season tickets. It's a tiny stadium, even with the increased prices it should have sold out surely.

I can't understand what Briatore & Ecclestone want with QPR? These two are billionaires aren't they? What can they want with an average sized Championship club (in terms of size), who has such a limited revenue and scope going forwards? They can't be in it to make much money, and they seem to be tightening up now they're in the Premiership. Just seems very odd.

Today is the last renewal date for existing ST holders - so they can't sell out until all these have either been renewed or released and resold.

They want to be "a boutique club" - a fashionable team where those who can't get into Chelsea go and watch football.

I thought there were 3 reasons they got into QPR;

1. it was just a big ego trip for them, and a plaything to spend some of their loose change on. Once relegated, they will sell up and look for something new to "invest" in.
2. they were going to sell the stadium and the land its on for redevelopment but the credit crunch put paid to that idea; when the market picks up sufficiently to meet their investment realisation estimates they will be gone, and QPR will be looking to ground share.
3. Both 1 & 2.

in december qpr released a press release claiming they were eyeing a move to a 35,000 capacity stadium on the current bbc's television centre site in west london. talk though is cheap, and they're hardly spending big money to establish the club in the premier league, so relegation looks more likely next season and as mentioned a test of how interested they really are in the club long term. of the same article:

"The club is part-owned by the billionaire Mittal family and racing driver entrepreneurs Flavio Briatore and Bernie Ecclestone. Briatore and Ecclestone are widely reported to be selling their stakes; Vijay Mallya, the United Breweries tycoon and Kingfisher beer owner, has been in the frame, but a deal has not yet materialised."
