It's a bit of a pundit driven myth that they can't do anything afterwards if the ref dealt with it at the time. They don't like to do something, but they can, and have in the past.

I'm sure he'll still get well paid jobs for a few years yet but he's basically finished as a top flight club manager - the passion has gone. He doesn't inspire the players anymore, he doesn't change the course of games with tactical moves, there is no twinkle in his eye, no humour in his interviews / press conferences etc.
