Unfortunately it works both ways with idiots from either club. We've had a small minority of Liverpool fans mocking the Munich air disaster and United fans have mocked Hillsborough and Heysel.

No reports on United smashing up the Anfield concourse or toilets as Liverpool fans did at OT though. Perhaps it hasn't been reported yet.

The thing with Hillsborough is that the contempt shown towards supporters by the government, police, FA and clubs at the time was such that just about every active supporter had a "That could have been me at...." story and that is why it united all supporters in shock and condemnation of what happened. Seem to me the people who mock and pisstake now are the sort of ignorant twats who have no idea what it was like to be a supporter at the time and have absolutely no appreciation that it took the deaths of 96 for anything to actually change.

I'm glad United have issued a statement condemning the people in question. Hopefully identification and banning will follow.

very much this. It was 27 years ago. The majority of people singing these songs were certainly not of an age where they would remember Hillsborough, I doubt most were even 27 themselves. Like pretty much all stupid behavior at football, including the Pardew chants last night, it is because those doing it are are pissed up teenage d*cks who sing and shout the most provocative thing they can think of because A. they are pissed up teenage d*cks, and B they think they will look like #lads to their m8's.
