I saw he was ill but missed the news of his death. Liked the booze apparently and was a heavy smoker. Hell of a talent though. RIP in peace

Very sad. What a wonderful player he was. Languid style and the game always looked so easy. He gave me the impression that he was thinking miles ahead of his team mates. I saw him play at Wembley in 81 alongside Eder, Zico, Junior et al, and that team went on to become the best team never to win the World Cup in 82.

There was one moment during the game that made my jaw drop: running at pace, a ball was played in to him in the air and slightly behind him and he managed to pull it down in front of him with his heel without breaking stride.

RIP

RIP in peace sweet elegant prince.
My favourite player of the '82 World Cup. Think I'll watch his goal against Italy on loop all day, he was so cool he probably meant to bounce the ball on the goal line for the puff of paint dust as it goes in.

Legend in Garforth as well. The 82 WC is still my favourite with Brazil v Italy still being probably the best WC Finals game I have ever seen. Shame they had Simon "Serginho" Church up front.
