that remains my favourite ever chant. singing that until i was breathless and seeing stars under the south bank. possibly never as loud as against wolves when archie scored two in time added on to stop wolves reaching the play-offs.

A great case of the grass is never greener on the other side. 17 years after he walked out to manage in the promised land the 6 months at Leicester are the only one's he managed in the Premiership. He is now managing a club struggling to stay in the league. How the mighty fall.

Will always remember McGhee for adopting a playing style which I never expected from Reading - especially as I had been brought up mainly on Branfoot's 'hoof, hoof' tactics. IIRC wasn't the "new stadium" meant to have a capacity of 15k but the success during 1993-95 meant they had to look upwards? Yes, his departure left a sour taste but his team was the catalyst for what we see today.

Mark McGhee - Reading's best ever Managerial Appointment? Its under his reign that the club went from being losers to winners and we haven't really looked back since.

The last 2 posts sum up the MM era for me. Those of us there remember that we were pleading for him to hang up his boots and concentrate on managing. We could see the evolution of the side taking place and the signing of Kevin Dillon goes down as one of the most stute bits of business the club made. Remember that MM was SJM's first managerial appointment following the removal of the quite inept Ian Porterfield. The appointment of MM was the start which has culminated in Reading's return to the top flight.

Anyone remember Gilkes' testimonial at EP when MM brought back the 93/4/5 sides? Absolutely wiped the floor with TB2's misfits.

Certainly do. Simon Shepperd saved a pen and had an incredible "Ipswich away" performance. Indeed, the old team were miles and miles ahead of the Burns team. Pretty sure it's a fact, but that was the last game to be played at EP.

Ah, Simon Sheppard. Will always remember his Gordon Banks save against Leicester at Filbert Street. Mcghee's 1st game against us If I remeber correctly. Pretty much the only good thing he ever did mind.

Shame that in his only good game for us he still managed to injure Adie Williams.

Yeah that's right. From Iwan Roberts wasn't it? Maybe.

Oh and wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments about the style of football under McGhee. 93/94 was brilliant to watch.

I think there was a reserve team match even after that, but only the north stand was open for that one.

Which game was it that saw the kids run on and snap the crossbars at the final whistle?
