AFC Wimbledon

This weekend I'm off to AFC Wimbledon v Bradford with a mate who supports the away side. Have any of you been and did you like it? Just curious.

Why would you chose to go watch a team you don't even support when the team that you do support are playing at home?!

He could be a lover of the game. It could be because he fancies a day out with his mate who supports the opposition.

Or it could be that he lives nearer to AFC Wimbledon than Reading...

Yes, went for the cup game against Ebbsfleet.

Nice set up there. Free parking in the field alongside the ground and a decent supporters bar, open to all.
In the corridor behind the bar there is a cabinet with much of the original Wimbledon momento's and trophies.

Went there for their home game vs Port Vale back in September - had a brilliant day out

Check out the Sir Robert Peel pub just up from the ground - ooh la la - went in there after the game to be greeted by 15 or so lashed up Northern fat blokes and a couple of strippers. 1 of whom offered me and a m8 "some really good coke" :? and the other one who took to the stage wearing just 2 blue & yellow AFCW scarves and started squirting water pistols at the fattest of the aforementioned Northern geezers.

10/10 - much better than a day at the Madejski

Without wishing to hijack the thread, I'm going to Hereford to watch Cheltenham on Saturday (snow permitting).

I've pencilled in a trip to the cathedral to see the Mappa Mundi. Other than that, I'm a bit stuck. I understand Edgar Street is just about the shittiest league ground in the country?

I respect AFC Wimbledon as a club but they've thread divvyest set of fans around.

Quite apt that the autospell on my phone changes the clubs name to simpleton.

Went to FC United v AFC at their place and their divs came over wanting to chat with us and shit. oxf*rd the geeks right off.

Then after they all invited us to the members bar but we went to The Peel and to sum the mongdivs up not one home fan in there.

Should have given 1/2 of them a good firm thump and sent out a clear signal, its a football match not a social gathering...they are the enemy from another town.

Yeh I've been a few times. Smashing little club. Love standing on the terraces, reminds me of Elm Park RIP.

Bit of a bugger to get to is the only problem, hope they one day manage to return to Merton.

It is absolutely dreadful, it backs onto a public toilet. One end is condemned, the Main stand is boarded up and the view from the away end is non existant. Enjoy.

Couldn't agree more and it's why I don't really understand the "Reading til I die" types, particularly those in permanent exile.

It's supposed to be entertainment.

And of course many's the time when I've brought non-RFC supporting friends to the Madejski when they could have gone and watched their own team.
