Stepping stone to becoming BHA's manager when Poyet finally gets the Premiership job he has been touting for over the last 18 months.

Coppell appointed director of football at Crawley

Steve Coppell has been appointed director of football at Crawley.

Nothing whatsoever to do with the team section of the forum, but just thought I would let everyone know

A rather strange appointment given the fact that Crawley favour Warnock's style of 'football'.

Stunned.

How a bloke with Coppell's standing in the game and integrity could associate himself with this hideous mob of a football club.

I just know the Gulls are going to end up 4th with this lot cheating their way to 3rd place, end up in financial 'difficulty' next season, nailed on.

According to Fordham, SSC knows one of their senior directors. That is why he took the job.

Steve Evans is a horrible horrible character, but he's gone now (more fool Rotherham). If Steve feels he would like a role in football that is out of the limelight and he knows one of the directors then this sounds like a good appointment for him and most certainly for Crawley.

I can see a few of our youngsters heading Crawley's way on loan next season.

I think he lives around there? I never quite get what a director of football does.

Well at Reading Hammond handles the contracts and manages the scouts from what I can gather.

There's probably as many different definitions as there are directors of football.

Indeed there is. Luckily for us at Reading we have the right balance with Nicky Hammond and the management, but at other clubs, most notably at Spurs when Frank Arnesen took the DoF role, he was signing players over the managers head. Hence it more often than not doesn't work out.

With Crawley handing the managers role temporarily to Craig Brewster, I wouldn't be surprised if Steve Coppell has a more active roll with who joins the club, certainly for now anyway.

Quite. And the Creepies couldn't have replaced Evans with someone more different.

Apart from having had Steve Evans as manager, what else have they done to attract your vitriol? You could well be right about the "difficulty" unless their very poor attendance figures pick up.

What's the over-under on how long he stays. I give it three weeks at most.
