Avon Royal The problem with a Ukraine win is that it means that Sweden could have nothing to play for in their last game against France.

Thats ok as i would rather play Croatia than Spain or Italy in the next round

Kitsondinho Kes getting a dig in at Gerrard, who'd have thunk it?

Recorded the game and just watched the goals again. If you're being harsh and apportioning blame for the goal, it has to go Scott Parker's way.

If you watch the build up to the goal, Gerrard's is tracking Ribery, and as the ball moves towards the centre, Cabaye. Nasri is Parker's man and Parker dives in front of Nasri's initial shot on goal, which cannoned off Lescott.

Unfortunately after that attempted block, Parker doesn't pick up Nasri again, who drifts across the edge of the penalty area. Gerrard's has taken up a defensive position. Parker has aimlessly trotted into the same space as Gerrard's and then gets wrong-footed by the pass into Ribery, leaving Gerrard's the only man attempting to rush out to block the ball.

It doesn't need all that analysis, we conceded because as a whole we were sitting too deep, but the goal was not Gerrard's fault.

LOL!!

I like football m8. Interesting to see how the goal developed.

How is Gerrard tracking Ribery - he's never within 5 yards of him

Ukraine have used up 2 of the 3 extra minutes by rolling around and making subs.

TBM, I'm looking at the 30-40 seconds before the goal, not just the last 5.

Kes said Nasri was Gerrard's man. If you watch the build up this is plainly not the case, he was Parker's, but the latter was nowhere.

Well now you're looking at the last 5, would you agree that Gerrard didn't need to be there? - IF he was truely tracking Ribery then he would have been on his back meaning he wouldn't have had the space/time to lay the ball back and he would have also been closer to Nasri when he hit the shot.

As I said, I've watched e build up to the goal, not just the last 5 seconds. As you can appreciate being a pretty decent player, there's more to positioning that you happen to be nearest to when the shot is made.

I've already said Gerrard moved toward Cabaye as the ball moved into the centre for Nasri's initial blocked shot.

Gerrard was isolated by Parker's awful positioning.

Back to the group stage thread, that scoreline opens group right up. Must now beat the Swedes.

Swedes got their tactics all wrong, saw them come out of their shell too little too late, I don't think Ukraine were expecting to have the lions share of possession and they look knackered from it which teams like England/France would punish them. Get your tactics right and they should be easy wins.

No Fixed Abode Decent result, but we'll have to improve our ball retention. Delighted with with Gerrard's immaculate cross for Lescott's goal.
Poor attempt by Hart for their goal.
Would have won if it wasn't for that.

I have to admit that after eight games, I have had very very few correct predictions. The only exact result I got exactly right was Spain-Italy. I also said that Germany and Russia would win (but I was way out with the scores), and apart from that, everything else has been completely wrong. There's a part of me that finds that pretty gr8, to be honest.
