Ian Royal Hmmm. my apologies, if you didn't - although your post has suspiciously been edited.

This is the post he mentions getting the ball

viewtopic.php?p=3333634#p3333634

Got the ball first is an embellishment but I was half joking anyway..

It's actually you who got closest to saying he got the ball first but you werent being as fun.

I still think it was a reckless challenge and would have been a foul anywhere else on the pitch though.

Avon Royal English players are mentally weak - we would have lost against Spain before we even took to the pitch.

Substitute Spain for Germany/Italy/Holland/France...... I still fancy us against Spain more than Italy

Depends on whether the players buy into the "beautiful" football hype that has been annoying the crap out of me since they beat the worst team in the tourney

Didn't know England were through the group stage. Think Spain got the Beautiful football hype by becoming the World and European Champions with almost perfect team play.

TBM Im guessing the Spanish national anthem doesn't have any words and it's just "la la la la lo la"

The Kinks singing about transvestism as a National Anthem

Good song, but what message does it send to others?

Yes they did, but the sycophantic spanking off recently has been sickening.

We (Ireland) played all right in the second half, without ever really threatening to score, but lots of possession (for us) and altogether, much better than the previous two games. But 2-0 is 2-0 and it has been very disappointing overall.

Becoming World and European champions by cre8ing a style that beats the opposition into submission can hardly be slagged off tbh

Thought you were crying out for Long to start all tournament. Instead Trap went with the past it Keane and the two years out of form Doyle, who was always going to end up doing donkey work wide and not doing any damage upfront.

Long would have really made defences work... I'd have probably gone with Walters with him and just tried to bully the arse off of other team's defenders in the hope they gave you something. At least once you were desperate for results. McClean should have been starting too, quite possibly Coleman too.

I think Ireland had what it takes in players to put up a decent fight, but instead you've gone out as one of the biggest whipping boys in the history of the Euros. Trappertoni should be out on his ear.

BBC said this morning that viewing figures for the Sweden game peaked at 16 million

I have nothing to compare that too but it is huge isn't it?

I'd say for a group game, yep. It helped it was on a Friday night. Even though tonight is more important I doubt the figures will be as high.

Sounds enormous tbh.

Spain v Cro was boooring.

Tonight - should start Welbeck and Rooney, and drop Andy Carroll (henceforth to be prefixed with "the unfortunate").

Welbeck played well in the first game and scored against Sweden, plus he plays with Rooney at club level and is more of a baller than the unfortunate Andy Carroll.

In this day and age that is a fantastic viewing figure

'greed that last night's game was the low point of the tournament so far (apart from anything mark lawrenson has said)

It is massive yes. I read something the other day comparing it (or perhaps the France game, which I think might've been 15m+, or even some of the other games) to other audience figures and it was quite impressive, much more than things like the Champions League final etc.

And to think some people say that international football is dead and there's no interest in it...

Bang on.

I also thought that despite Carroll being talked up for his defensive advantage, Wellbeck was pretty good at winning the ball for a striker – certainly tidier than Carroll was.

My annoyingly predictable tournament optimism is leading me to believe Rooney will be the much needed spunk in our hard but previously sterile dongwang.

Looking forward to having the white Pele back tonight. 3-1 win for us, 3-0 win for France.
