Jake Humphrey makes joke about a "slip" to Gerrard.

This whole thing has annoyed me. Particularly those outraged by it. Seriously... when did the whole world - more accurately football fans - become a bunch of uptight, biased and closed minded cry babies.

Answer I guess is - since forever.

Personally I didn't find it very funny apart from a "hah, can't believe he just said that!" Type of reaction. But the reactions I've seen are things like "he should be sacked for that, who does he think he is...."

Get over it you bunch of whinging fannies

I watched this live, Humphrey is as insufferable as they come but he almost went slightly up in my estimations with this joke, except as usual he ruined it by barging in with no subtlety whatsoever, which is pretty much all he does

They were discussing Chelsea coasting to the title and looking unstoppable and started off by asking Gerrard if Chelsea 'had a slip in them'. Now that's funny, it was subtle, those of us who noticed it probably had a good chuckle, and then we moved on. Gerrard didn't seem to notice it (or was just ignoring it) and that probably made it even funnier

Except that wasn't enough for Humphrey, who needed to let us all know he'd just made a joke and utterly bantzed Stevie G by interrupting him with 'TALKING OF SLIPS!" followed by some weird exhale. Tw@t. We got the joke the first time

Deserves to be posted on a fresh page tbf, it's too good to get stuck in bottom-of-the-page limbo.

Not YouTube (can we rename the thread title to just Football Related Spare Thread?) but Breda Hangeland's anecdotes transcribed from a Norwegian podcast, are absolute gold.

Bloke on Talksport yesterday discussing a book he has written on Fred Spiksley. Spiksley was the most famous player in the country in the late 1800's/early 1900's, scored a hat-trick on his England debut against Wales, then another hat-trick on his 2nd appearance against Scotland, was considered to be the best player in the country by some distance and became a big celeb. ended up being mates with Charlie Chaplin and would appear on stage with him at his shows. Went on to travel the world as a football coach, was coaching in Germany when war broke out and was arrested there and subsequently escaped. Was also a big drinker, gambler, went bankrupt, and was always at the races. died at Goodwood races on Ladies Day.

sounds like a proper #lad and is one of them 'how is this not more well known?' kind of stories,

Probably because he didn't have a twitter or Instagram account. That seems to help most footballers these days make the headlines.

How many victorian/edwardian footballers are really that well known?

A few historians might recognise a McGregor or a Foulke but ...

sorry

I found this photo

Love the moment when he realises someone is filming on their phone and he objects to that, even though he's already lost it big time in front of TV cameras
