stealthpapes St. Brynjar Odd that Brazil who reached the semis fell below Uruguay who went out in the last 16.
I suppose 20th sounds about fair for us right now.
Outside of the top few, not very much separates most of the teams in the top 20. Games from 4 years ago drop off, replaced by the more recent ones. If I could be arsed, I'd look up the scores and tell you, because the algorithm used is transparent.
Brazil had 2 years of friendlies which don't score as heavily in the ranking calculations either. I saw an article which suggested that a for example, a win away to the Germany in a friendly would score a similar number of points as a win at home to Hungary in a competative match.
This was mooted as an argument when the seedings were announced for the World Cup, Switzerland edged out England primarily due to England playing and losing friendlies against the likes of Brazil or Italy and scoring 0 ranking points whereas Switzerland would beat the likes of Oman in friendlies and pick up 100 points. This was the difference between being seeded and not being seeded. The arguement being that you weight your friendlies in the 18 months before a major tournament to pick up easy ranking points
