Championship 2016-17 - General Discussion

by genome » 14 Sep 2016 11:25

I like RR's idea of keeping league discussion in the one thread, it would be good to have one for the rest of the Championship as well as the Premier League.

After a shaky start it looks like Newcastle are finally hitting stride, I think they will need to (and could well) go unbeaten for the rest of the season to break 106 though. Poor QPR

I'm also a bit  that Derby have only scored one goal so far this season, in the league. Are they bottling it already?

I can see Newcastle running away with it now - there are far too many goals in that side, and Benitez has tightened the defence too, just one goal (a penalty) conceded in five games now.

Barnsley have snuck up on me. 5 wins from 7. What's occurring there then?

Difficult to see Owen Coyle surviving another 4 or 5 weeks at Blackburn.

I work with a blackburn fan. he says Coyle is the absolute no.1 person the fans would have hated to be their manager. says the whole thing is like a Burnley fan has bought the club and trying to have a laugh. they are f*cked.

loving Barnsley's & HUddd's start to the season. And Burton's. Newcastle will win it but I don't think they will run away with it like others do.

18 goals as well. Youngest squad in the league too, by almost two years.

Barnsley have an attitude of "nothing to lose" combined with some bright talent. This is also a TEAM that have gone from 23rd in division 3 to the play off places in the Division 2 in just TEN calendar months, so they have a supreme confidence and belief in themselves.

It is going to take a real performance from Reading on Saturday to take something from the game.

Surprised at Villa's start, and Sheffield Wednesday's who have started poorly also.

Villa were always the worst placed of the three relegated sides as they were so awful and disjointed last season. My summer prediction was they'd be down in the Champo for at least two seasons as it would take them that long to bottom out and try and reorganise themselves into something credible again.

Wednesday I would agree with you on, I thought they would be challenging again this year after being very good last year. Still early days though.

Good old Sky stat that, given it would be making serious news if any team in the PL and FL were still looking to score their first goal, doesn't need stating.

at least they haven't spent bucketsloads of cash on attacking players over the last year or so in order to up their scoring.

According to Derby supporting friends of mine, he basically dropped to about 5th choice centre back last season under the previous manager. Pearson seems to rate him higher so he's more like third choice now apparently. I do feel sorry for him, he's had a real rough time of it (footballing wise) since leaving us

If you include Reading it's actually 2 goals in 36 appearances stretching back to the Rotherham game.

24 year old Sheffield Wednesday defender Jeremy Helan quits and says he is giving up football to dedicate himself to religion.

Didn't take long for someone to update his Wiki page to him being on loan to Isis
