Because there are potentially replays my take is that VAR should only be used if available in both legs.

There was quite a telling bit in the build up to the Merseyside derby where they analysed a Crouch goal from 2006 and showed that VAR would have likely found him offside.

As has been shown again and again, the offside rule is being implemented more strictly than it has been for decades.

Good to see the pitch side monitor being used today but.... if the abuse thrown at ref Oliver whist he was walking to and at the monitor is anything to go by no wonder they don’t want to use it.

Palace fans like a pack of animals trying to get at him. Absolute joke.

Old Man Andrews Bizarre behaviour, laughable.

Although I’m still massively anti-VAR, I’d prefer it if the refs used monitors, rather than some gimp sitting 200 miles away looking at it on a screen

Isn't that the same thing, just one gimp is actually at the match and one gimp isn't?

I agree with Urzzz basic point. Why can't the VAR ref say "I think you need to double check that" if there is concern there is a wrong call or something is missed? The VAR ref keeping his opinion to a minimum, just suggesting there may be an issue or error?

Not VAR's fault* , but that West Ham denied goal was a fukking abomination of a decision

*though was that ridiculous handball rule bought in because VAR was also coming in? Because the VAR. Ref should be able to look at that and say 'no chance could he have moved his hand out of the way'. Also, didn't realise it mattered anywhere on the pitch, assumed it was just in the box

Good decision to give a red card there. Looked horrible on Meyers ankle there.

And Danny Murphy said on match of the day it wasn’t a red :| is he for real? That’s a red all day long.

Sack it off now!

Too many f11ck-ups and will eventually.....

Kill the game...you score....you check the linesman’s flag is down...you celebrate....then the opposition fans get to celebrate a minute or so later.....no goal VAR says so :|

Might as well do away with referees altogether....just have somebody reviewing the action remotely

Goal line technology....yes tho’

I thought Lloris touched him

Either way though, it’s a penalty or a second yellow card for Sterling

Think Lloris gets his hands out of the way, just in time. But you’re right, it’s either a pen or a yellow for Sterling, it can’t just be a goal kick after that.

I thought the two minute wait for the original decision to be given was pretty stupid too, looked pretty much stonewall from the replay

Yep. I've been a big supporter of VAR, but it is becoming a caricature of itself now. Arguably two pens missed in the Liverpool game (Shane Long had his arms round Firmino's neck, and Fabinho's trip on Ings, after which Liverpool scored their first), and Sterling should have been sent off long before the 2-3 minutes it took to award City a penalty.

Something can be not a penalty without it being a dive. Sterling was being clever, trying to encourage contact. I think had it not just followed on from a missed penalty the ref gives it all day long.

Also I didn't think you could give cautions based on VAR information?
