Leeds played well, but I'm always unconvinced by the "if we play that way, we'll be ok"
Teams that do that have just played as well as they can and lost

How often does that happen ?

And this is a generic statement rather than directed specifically at Leeds

Leeds looked good enough to stay up whereas West Brom and Fulham look like what they probably will be in a year's time, Championship clubs.
Both of these teams are still playing with Championship level defenders who are clearly not good enough.

I think Robson Kanu being West Brom’s 1st/2nd choice striker is also a big issue, WBA in dire need of a striker

I think they need a lot more than that.

Of course, but only having Zohore, Austin and Robson Kanu (having to use Callum Robinson out of position yesterday) is their biggest concern IMO

Yeah pretty sure that was said about Norwich last year and Fulham the season before

In saying that, I do think Leeds will be OK this season, many weak teams on display judging from the first game of the season

Totally agree on Norwich.

Wheels have really come off at Spurs. Shame cos they were one of the most exciting sides of recent times. Just seen this.....

Tottenham are interested in signing Southampton and England forward Danny Ings, 28.

That's not a top four signing, and how would that work with Kane ?

Feel a bit for Kane - his obvious ability coupled with a slightly dodgy injury record (nothing major but seems to miss a small chunk every season) makes the fee Spurs would want for him too high. He should be somewhere where his goals can win a club trophies. I think he's be a terrific foil for Aubameyang at Arsenal, although obviously that would never happen.

Won our hearts? LOL

As close as it was and as well as they did, they got no points. Also, “they went toe to toe for half an hour” isn’t a football match an hour and a half?

And we know what points make....

A little stat, as I like a stat. That's the third time in five seasons that Liverpool have conceded three on the opening day - but they haven't lost any of those five, in fact winning four.

Arsenal (a) 4-3
Watford (a) 3-3
West Ham (h) 4-0
Norwich (h) 4-1
Leeds (h) 4-3

Just out of interest Sangers was this reported or did you just think something like "I think Liverpool have done something like this before"?
As you know I follow Liverpool's performances closely but couldn't have told you that those games were all the first of a season.

Fcuks sake. Promoted team with nothing to lose, go for it and lose - happens a lot. As pointed out Norwuch beat Man City early on last year. Fat lot of good it did them in the end.

And we went to Utd, who were also defending champs, and got a 0-0 draw on the opening day of the season 07/08 but still went down.

Just my own sad enjoyment of stats! The Leeds win reminded me of the opening day 4-3 over Arsenal. Then I remembered Liverpool put 4 past Norwich last season, so had a look at how Liverpool have kicked off their recent campaigns!

For all of West Ham’s endeavour, Moyes won’t last too long there unless results pick up fast and with their next five games consisting of Wolves, Leicester, Tottenham, Liverpool and City, you fear for them. In the corresponding fixtures last year, West Ham picked up 0 points in those fixtures

Eric Dier must be a contender for the worst regular Premier League starter

How he starts each week, particularly for a team like Tottenham, is beyond me

I enjoyed watching Leicester v Burnley.

The Leicester passing in the attacking third was fantastic. They’re my Premiership team until we firm up our top spot and join them next season.
