whats your favourite save of all time

by WoodleyRoyal » 26 Oct 2017 12:02

this save from gremio keeper in brazil is being described as one of the best ever - https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football ... -all-time/

its good, but he didn't move his arm to the ball, he put it out and the ball hit it. seen better to be honest.

Whats your fav?

Mine was probably seaman's Arsenal vs. Sheffield Utd - FA Cup Match https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... hHyHXnLCIw

Yeah, Seaman's is far better than that. In fact, I struggle to name a better one than Seaman's.

Not sure why Banks' save against Brazil is regarded as the best tbh

Can this count as a save? Didn't the referee blow for a foul or offside a couple of seconds before the shot came in?

There's a few ridiculous ones on here from Schmeichel.

Peter Shilton's point blank save from Mick Ferguson when Forest clinched the title at Coventry in 78. Breathtaking.

I’m not saying it’s the best, but it’s definitely up there as my ‘favourite’.

That save by the Brazilian reminds me of Dudek's save from Shevchenko in the Champions League final. It really is a case if get something in the way and hope it sticks. Not as good as say, Seaman or Banks who make a clear play for a ball that is seemingly beyond reach. Shilton in his prime would make world class saves look routine though. IMO the best keeper in the world in the past 50 years.

Talking of Banks' save, I remember seeing Phil Burns pull off a similar save against Bournemouth in about 1990; angled down, wide and behind the keeper and he somehow got a hand to it.

Gregory coupet against Barca from a back pass and a rivaldo header. Diving header against his own bar to not Handle it and then a save from a 3 yard open goal

Never quite felt the love with Peter Shilton. I always thought Pat Jennings to be the best goalkeeper of that era (70s/early 80's).

Not a favourite save as such but the best performance by a goalkeeper I have ever seen was by a chap called Trevor Dance for Port Vale against us at Elm Park. Would have been about 1980. Gordon Banks was his goalkeeping coach and going through his paces both before the game and at half time. It finished 0-0 and to this day I still don't know how kept a clean sheet.

by no means the best of his many gr8 saves, but Spunky v Scotland in Euro '96 will always be up there for me.. not least as it proceeded 'that' Gazza goal..

Not one save in particular, but my favourite goalkeeping performance of all time was Nicky Hammond's at home to Cardiff in (I think) an FA Cup replay at Elm Park. I think we drew 1-1, and then won on penalties, but Hammond spent what seemed like most the game springing around like a demented cricket, pulling off worldie after worldie to keep Cardiff at bay. And then he saved two penalties as well.

^^ +1 to that.

That performance has always stuck with me
