That's probably sane on the drop ball. The current rule actually has no limits on the number of players that can challenge one.

Most of that looks pretty decent to me.

Does that mean they'll be no more booting it through to the goalie at a dropped ball and play will continue from where the drop ball is taken? If so, excellent

Latest proposed gibberings coming from FIFA

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... s-19073784

1. no offside so long as a (single) body part which a player can score with is in line with the defender
2. corners where the ball swings out of play before coming back in to be valid
3. players able to play free kicks to themselves
4. 5 mins from the end, throw ins in own half to be taken as kicks instead

I remember the offside rule being easily understandable until it was “fixed”, how many other bits and pieces that don’t need fixing will they sort out?

This belongs in the Good Day/Bad Day thread

Good Day - saw this and thought I’d hibernated for five and a half months
Bad Day - realised it isn’t 1st April

Number 4 - you what ?

Like number 1, less likely to get stupid offside calls by VAR.

2 - fine. Would even be tempted to change the rule that a ball is only out of play when it hits the ground or a player outside of the markings I.e. a ball from a full back can bend out of play but is fine if it is next touched in play.

3. Hmm. Speeds the game up I guess and increases chance of an advantage to attacking team.

4. Nah, wouldn't have the effect they clearly think it would I.e. reducing time wasting.

Logical extension of rule 2 is utilising similar rule to rugby/cricket, ie ball can be kept in but only if both feet in touch / off the ground

Be great seeing players flying backwards off their feet trying to head it back in

3 will only work if you don't have to wait for the whistle. 4 just seems ridiculous.

4 is a Wenger thing isn't it. Though didn't think he was saying it should only be five minutes from the end. His argument is that you rarely get much of an advantage from throw in your own half. Given the amount of added on time you can get most games will mean that five minutes is at least eight or nine.
