Newcastle last won a major trophy in 1969 (Fairs/UEFA Cup). The last major domestic honour to come their way was the FA Cup in 1955.

That said they have won the Second Division 3 times since 1969 and also the Intertoto thing in 2006 and a couple of Texaco/Anglo Italian cups in the 70s though since 1969 they’ve only really been any “good” for about 3 years in the mid-90s.

Good luck to them, though in the next couple of years we’ll have a big seven

Not even sure I'd categorise Arsenal as one of the "big clubs" anymore - haven't been in the CL since the 16/17 season now. Spurs are perhaps going the same way too - more likely to compete with the likes of Everton, Leicester, and more recently West Ham

It's a shame the way football is continuing to evolve on a financial basis rather than a technical basis

The still from the BBC video, on the Khashoggi angle of this story, makes Amanda Staveley look like Buff Squidward

Scutterbucketz The Premier League can finally stop pretending they give any sort of shit who buys their football clubs now.

Also, what is the supposed rule on spending against revenue and how do you think Newcastle will side step it?

Unfortunately I think the Saudis have most of the cards. UEFA already struggle to deal with UAE and Qatar, and Saudi Arabia are a different kind of beast. The football world won’t tip upside down, but it’s obvious that this won’t end well.

Funny how fans are dead against sports-washing and the ethics of big money coming into the league and ruining competition... until they buy your club

Why are the fans so desperate to get rid of Steve Bruce? He's won as many trophies as their last 30 managers put together

WestYorksRoyal Because it's high profile, the Saudi involvement will get attention. The reality is that our country is awash with investment and money from sinister sources and sportswashing is widespread. I can't really begrudge Newcastle specially, and if I really cared passionately enough about these issues would get into campaigning or politics instead of moaning on a football forum.

I'd like to see Newcastle crash the big boys in the next 10 years or so. A friendly city where they're passionate about their football team. Agree with QSF's comment about no fans "deserving" success, but happier for Newcastle fans to have some excitement than Chelsea, for example.

Agree on the rather "holier than thou" attitude towards the new ownership situation at Newcastle.
What about so many clubs (ours included) taking Chinese, Russian and other middle-eastern money?
There weren't too many protests when the Russian (trust us to get the only one without any money) came along with so-called deep pockets.

Where were the protests about Russian suppression of free speech, Kosovo, Ukraine etc then and when Abramovic put all that dough into Chelsea.?

I wish Newcastle no particular ill and the result might mean a bit more competition in the Premier League.

BTW as far as FFP is concerned I gather from on the radio earlier today that Newcastle are in quite a strong position as they have spent f*** all during the Ashley years and have lived well within their means.

Didn’t they spend £80 million on a whole strike force (ASM, Joelinton and Almiron) in 2019? Agreed that on the whole, he hasn’t made sufficient investment to take Newcastle to the best level, but £80 million is a considerable amount, especially considering two of them haven’t really worked out

It's one more step towards the ESL....which may even go worldwide. I hope so.
The Newcastle deal is disgusting especially as the fact the head of the backers ordered the decapitation of a journalist.
These clubs will just drive player prices and wages up which makes it even harder for clubs like us.

It's probably what most non-Newcastle fans would like to see and buying in January to patch up their side may well not work.

BTW the idea of Eddie Howe going there (mentioned in the betting) with his "big" club (or not) experience is laughable IMHO.
He couldn't deal with Prem. League egos at Bournemouth so to be able to do so at an even bigger club seems unlikely.

Pepe the Horseman Lol @ the "we've got our club back" line they're peddling.

If their fans are happy about having a mass murdering, human rights abusing megalomaniac in charge, I hope this ends them.

Fact is they really do believe football is more important than life bullshit from that old Shankley saying.
Always annoyed me that in the light of 2 stadium disasters some Liverpool fans still peddled that saying as well.

I'd laugh if the Iraelis bought Sunderland.

Bringing the West Bank to Washington.
