Metz Vs PSG last night was stopped mid game due to homophobic abuse chanted by fans and a banner being displayed

Seems to be a bit of a theme running through french football right now

Welcome to Italy, Romelu.

https://www.theguardian.com/football/20 ... not-racist

After Romelu Lukaku highlights that he was racially abused by Cagliari fans during Inter's match there, Inter fans write a letter to him explaining that monkey chants are not racist and are a sign of respect, that they themselves will use to intimidate opposing players. :|

Italian fans not racist? This is the country where Verona fans would chant for Adrian Mutu whenever a black player was on the ball because it sounded like a monkey chant.

Of the big 5 leagues it's the one with by far the worst problem with racism. Granted it's creeping back into our game with one or two knuckle draggers but in Italy it's whole sections of a stand.

It is still very much accepted culturally there though. Black people are very much looked at as 2nd class citizens so until that changes and the country starts to come in line with the rest of the civilized world it will always be a problem in their football stadiums. Would like to see a scenario where if there are any incidents during games where both teams walk off the pitch in solidarity with the abused players. Just stop the game and leave the animals in the crowd to it.

Interesting write up on the Greenlandic championship, in which the whole season is played over a week

18 year old Rodrygo comes off the bench and scores in 95 seconds on his Real Madrid debut.

Second fastest debut goal for the club after his Brazilian compatriot, Ronaldo.

Nice early season story in Portugal with Famalicao sitting top after 6 games. They were promoted from the 2nd division last season and have beaten Sporting Lisbon in their opening games.

Their main man up front is Ruben Lameiras who used to play for Plymouth while former Oxford player Toni Martinez also plays for them.

20 year old Englishman Josh Tyman, on loan from Stoke, plays in defence

Hot on the heels of 16 year old Ansu Fati both scoring and assisting within seven minutes of his debut for Barca, which I'm sure you were totally disinterested in.

Shock in Austria at the weekend, as Erling Haaland didn't score for the first time since the opening day, dropping him to 17 goals in 10 games this season.

We'll at least it seems have some different teams trying to keep up with the usuals in Europe this season - Inter top Serie A by two points from Juventus and look very strong. Angers, LOSC and Nantes are keeping pace with PSG for now. RB Leipzig top the Bundesliga by two.

Similar story to Portugal in Spain's Segunda Division - CF Fuenlabrada, from Madrid, are in their first season at this level, but sit 4th with four wins from their opening six games.

Real Sociedad continue their excellent start to the season with a 3-0 win against Alaves.

Martin Ødegaard producing yet another stunning assist for the first goal.
