Cittadella have spent most of their existence in the 3rd tier and I think have never played in the top division before

Their home ground sits outside the city walls, and holds just 7,600.

Winston Biscuit pretty rare for the 2nd division team to win the relegation play off isn't it?

First time since Düsseldorf beat Hertha in 2012 and I think only the 5th time it's happened since the play-off was introduced in 1981. Other play-off promotion winning teams were Stuttgarter Kickers, 1.FC Nürnberg and Bayer Ürdingen.

Union's promotion will also see the first ever competitive East/West Berlin derby. Hertha and Union have only played once in a friendly 17 days after the wall fell.

It’s a cool idea and surprised it’s so rare, just shows the gulf. I reckon if they had such a thing here it would be much more even, in fact I’d even go as far as to say I’d expect the championship side to win more often than not.

You could be right, would probably have backed Leeds to beat Cardiff over 2 legs if it had been used this year.

It is strange that is so rare here. There is also a play-off between the 2.Bundesliga/3. Liga and in the 10 years that has existed it is 50/50.

2nd leg of that play-off is tonight Ingolstadt looking to avoid a 2nd relegation in 3 seasons lead Wehen Wiesbaden 2-1 after the first leg in Wiesbaden.

12:00pm today - Turkish club Kasimpasa announce Ibrahim Uzulmez as their new manager. He holds an initial press conference and has his picture taken holding the club shirt.

4:00pm today - Turkish club Kasimpasa announce they have sacked Ibrahim Uzulmez after a disagreement with him.

Wasn't there a Serbian club who had a press conference to announce a new manager and the leader of the ultras, who was also on the board, gatecrashed it and frogmarched him out of the club because 20 years earlier he played for their big rivals?

I can't work out how you'd think that was a pop. Just that while that is a crazy sacking, there have been crazier.

ok, fair enough. I did think it was odd that you would, as that is not your manner, but I read it in an accusatory tone for some reason

Not Europe but the crazy story of Tigre who under the Argentine league system, finished 9th, were relegated then qualified for the Copa Libertadores.

Cittadella won the first leg 2-0.......but Hellas Verona won the 2nd leg 3-0 with an 83rd minute winner. Cittadella had a player sent off in 62nd minute and another off in the 77th minute.

I also learned that Cittadella are an all Italian club.

Liam Henderson plays for Hellas Verona btw

After more than a decade spent in the country’s top-flight and despite their respectable league position, this year Tigre succumbed to the promedio system, which decides relegation on a three-year points average.

But a draw against champions Racing in the penultimate game was enough to seal their fate. Their average, despite not having finished in the bottom four in any of the last three seasons, would send them to the Nacional B.

That's brilliantly bonkers.

Wigan/Sunderland would've got relegated from the prem way before they did if we had this system
