Both Bolton and Bury will be saved at the 11th hour as is standard in most of these cases. Wouldn’t surprise me to even see a further extension granted by the FL if things can be shown to be not quite complete. Fully expect both to be playing their league game against each other on 8th Sep.

Had a look at the Bolton forum. They seem to think this will all get sorted late on.

Recent history suggests that it will - the EFL are apparently getting pressure from other League 1 clubs to get this done one way or another as you currently have 4 teams with results that will be wiped, a potential fixture pile-up due to the Bury games being suspended and various other issues regarding if clubs will have 21, 22 or 23 home games this season.

If both do go under then we will end up in a farcical situation where:

*L1 will be 22 teams - teams will have 4 blank weekends and 2 clubs will finish earlier than everyone else.
* Only 2 teams will be relegated

*L2 will see 5 teams automatically promoted and the play-offs will be contested by the teams in 6th to 9th
* Nobody will be relegated

As a result, L2 will be a lot more competitive as far as promotion push is concerned as likely teams as low as 16th or 17th will fancy a late run but conversely for the bottom 6 or 7 teams the season will be a dead rubber from Feb/March - this could affect gates etc and clubs finances.

I don't know how you would do it but they should look to stagger things over 2 seasons I recks

Some fella on the wireless just said Bolton's 'fallen through' deal is seen as just each side negotiating hard and it should go through today, though obv could still hit problems. Bury have had an offer (from Alastair Campbell's son) but it only happened over the weekend it is very much in the balance as there is so little time to actually sort it out before the deadline.

I feel bad but a part of me has bloodlust over all this

On the one hand I would be sad for all the supporters and the people who will lose their jobs and the affect it would have on the community
On the other hand, kick the fcukers out

L2 would still only promote 4 teams it’s the national conference that would have the extra promotion places

I read and posted last week only 1 team will go down from L2 and 1 up from NL. I would rather 3 (Woking, Solihull and Maidenhead) go up.

Well my maths is completely screwed anyway - as I'm making L1 a 26 team league.

4 will still go up and no more. Think EFL had stated that only 1 would go down from L2 if Bury go pop, so if they both do would imagine it will be no relegation and the usual 2 up from the NL. Would then of course mean even more movement in the NLN and NLS to backfill - mess either way.

Bury takeover has collapsed as proposed new owners are unwilling to take on the risks following their review of the finances, CVA and ground.

Looks like they will be gone this evening barring a late miracle.

So sad and life changing for so many fans.

They'll create a phoenix club, but unlike Aldershot they won't be able to play at the ground.

Horrible stuff.

Even with a phoenix club they will have to wait until the 2020/21 season to see "Bury" kick a ball again. Feasibly they could play at the ground but depends on if it is sold - would imagine there will be planning permission for houses/retail going in pretty quickly if they do go pop today.

Cant help but think Bury's low attendances, and proximity to other big clubs, may well not help a Phoenix club progress too far

AFC Wimbledon?

I seem to remember them ending with really low attendances and there are numerous other clubs close to Wimbledon.

Yeah. They'll have the season to plan but no football for a year hurts.

3 years before AFC Wimbledon was formed, the old Wimbledon averaged 18,000 at home games.

Bury averaged 4000 last year in a promotion season.

Did they? I seem to remember a game with us at Selhurst Park and the away fans outnumbered the home fans.

I shall try and find it.

Their hardcore of support will follow them.

They'll probably start at step 5 of the non league and average crowds if around 1700 ish as most do when they go bust.

Remember going to watch Aldershot in the early days after they went bust and had crowds of 1800 and taking 1000 to away games locally.

AFC took around 1000 to Sandhurst.
