Franchise FC Derby's administrators are lodging an appeal against the 12 point deduction for going into administration.

If that is rescinded then the EFL will NEVER be able to impose any punishment and FFP will be shot to pieces.

I can't work out whether I want that to succeed or fail. :?

One wonders what grounds they have to appeal that considering it’s hardly the first time it’s been applied to clubs in administration.

Presumably be an argument that the rules should be suspended or changed because of Covid.

Well, if they get if halved then I assume we will get half the expected deduction too i.e. 3pts.

Don't blame them for trying but it is a clear rule. Admin = 12pts, not sure there are any exceptions.

Brogue rumours mike ashley wants to buy them

Makes sense. Sports Direct HQ is only 30 miles from Pride Park.

Interestingly*, he went to Burnham Grammar School and only opened his first sports shop in Maidenhead, after an injury-curtailed squash career.

Average points needed to stay up over the past 5 seasons is 44.6. Derby now need another 50 points to hit that. Their form so far this season would have them projected to get 31.7 points from the remaining games

To stay up they effectively need to accumulate enough points that in another season would see them get 68 points, which would have been good enough for 8th place last season, and the season before that

Currently 15 points from safety and haven't won in seven (since they beat us).

So basically they are toast. They traditionally start well and then fall away. Regardless of points deduction they have not started well at all. Surely players will back off now and some will look to leave, relying on the youth somewhat. Planning for League One surely.

Even with 9 i genuinely believe we will be fine and somehow we can regroup, rebuild, and go again.

Derby may be toast off the field as well.

According to reports (admittedly in the Mail) they owe HMRC 29m and for any deal to be viable they need to talk HMRC down to a payment of around 7.5m.

HMRC are understandably reluctant as if they do that, as it would set a legal precident that other clubs could potentially use i.e. deciding that 12 point penalty is worthwhile as they know HMRC will write off 75% of their debt.

Hasn't the potential new owner said he will pay a reduced amount? I think if they have someone coming in guaranteeing some sort of payment then the HMRC will likely back off eventually.

He has said that and guess the argument will come down to how much HRMC are willing to waive and how much he is willing to pay - given it is not the only debt in town.

As with all these things, it will most likely be sorted but HRMC will be wary of setting a precedent by wiping off too much debt.

HMRC have been absolutely militant with clubs in the past in trying to shut one down to stop the rest screwing them.

I don't think they're likely to compromise without a big slice covered >50%
