Sebastian Polter that big lump of a German who caused Reading FC all sorts of problems against QPR is about to be sold to Union Berlin for £3 million.

Excellent news for us ahead of the game on Thursday.

Absolutely amazes me that there are points to be played for in January, games to be won and teams settled and yet transfer activity is all going to happen on the last day of the month. Why oh why is there never a rush to buy on the 1st!

You end up with players no-one really want or panic buys from premier league clubs looking st championship players and then the knock on effect of that.

Probably a separate discussion but what had been the best ever January transfer which had attributed to a promotion or relegation survival?

For us we can say Jason Roberts but at a higher level...?

The most sensible course of action for the transfer windows is to close it before the season starts and have no Jan transfer window at all. Makes it fairer for everyone.

The majority of transfers that go through on deadline day, the deals are actually worked on well in advance.

Christophe Dugarry for Birmingham, 02/03, is the one that typically comes up here.

There's probably an argument for Bent in 2011, 9 goals in 16 for a pretty awful post-O'Neill Villa side.

In the old school transfer window, Ronnie Rosenthal 1989/90 for Liverpool.

But they would still be under contract and earning a wage. Obviously free agents could be signed but that should be it.

It's only fair that everyone plays each other with the same squad throughout the season. If you play say, Bournemouth who might sign 3 or 4 players and significantly strengthen their squad a week after the transfer window closes you'd be pretty peeved you didn't play them a few weeks before.

Should they ban injuries and suspensions too then?

Seriously though, your point emphasises what a shambles the PL loan rules are, why should one team stockpile players and then loan them to various rival clubs knowing they wouldn't be able to play against them as the parent club?

A rare 'greed with Kes here, Summer window should end on 1st August. Gives clubs nearly 2 months to refresh their squads anyway.

I would only have a winter window if there was a winter break. Injuries and suspensions can happen at any time, so clubs would just need to make use of their youth players or free agents rather than loaning in the latest of the Chelsea conveyor belt.

So a player can't change job/employers when he wants to?

Yes he can change employers at any time. Can't play for the first team though until the following season.

Brentford fan told me that Coventry put a £1.5M valuation on Ben Stevenson and Brentford tried to look good to their fans by saying that they offered this amount and it is Coventry messing them around and holding things up. He reckons it has been leaked by Coventry that Brentford's offer was made up of £750k in basic fee and the other £750k paid once Stevenson makes 60 PL appearances for them and 20 England appearances.

Did he refuse to play though?

Wanting a move to a bigger club is all well and good but going on strike until you get the move is a different story.

Having said that, doesn't he want to join Marseille? Bit of a :| is due there

Costa now forced to stay due a new rule restricting the number of foreign players in China.

Bit awkward.
