Good to see BBC making another inspired choice of 'minnows' Eastleigh hosting 'giants' Swindon.....the budget of the former probably eclipses that of the latter  . Merstham vs Oxford would have been the better choice for the 'public service' state-sponsored broadcaster whose interest presumably waned somewhat when Salford City were eliminated this season.....

... and results from last night:

Tue 25th Oct
NAT
Dagenham & Redbridge 1-0 Aldershot Town
Woking 2-3 Braintree Town
NATS
Hemel Hempstead Town 2-1 Concord Rangers

SOUTHP
Chesham United 1-0 Kettering Town – Generals up to 7th, with games in hand on the top 5.
Chippenham Town 2-0 Basingstoke Town
Slough Town
2-1 Dorchester Town - att: nearly 600, 'Rebels' stay 2nd 1 pt behind leaders Leamington - who edged past Camb City 1-0 - but do have a game in hand.
Weymouth A-A Hayes & Yeading – Abandoned Fog - as was Salisbury's game at Paulton Rovers
SOUTH1 Central
Aylesbury 3-2 Beaconsfield SYCOB
Chalfont S P
0-2 Northwood
Fleet Town 2-2 Egham
Marlow 1-0 Farnborough Marcus Mealing with 15’ left – reportedly ‘boro had most of the game but were wasteful in front of goal – they stay 2nd behind Royston. Blues up to 7th.
Petersfield Town 0-2 Ashford Town (Mx)Ashtrees doing well after promotion are currently third.
Uxbridge 0-0 Kidlington
SOUTH1S&W
Didcot Town 3-2 AFC Totton – vital points for Diddy – goals from Learoyd, Graham & Barder (winner on 78’) saw off Totton, who’d led early on trailed 1-2 at HT levelled early 2nd half.
Shortwood Utd {SEVEN} 7-1 Wantage Town :(
Supermarine 0-3 Hereford att over 800 – approx. 600 Bulls fans.

ILP
Folkestone Invicta 1-1 Staines Town
ILS
Godalming Town 2-1 Ramsgate
- Opted for this once I’d avoided gridlock in Reading – got there at KO – been once before about 8 years ago. Bottom side grabbed only their 2nd win of the season but like Burnham are undergoing a recent upturn. 7 of their 8 points have come in their last 4 games.. They have now clambered above Three Bridges. Attracted by this one, as the visitors were the town of my adolescence - 'Ramsgit' scored their goal very late on and a tense 5-10 mins ensued but G’s were worth their win. Quirky little ground for STEP04 – they’ve not developed it much since being at this level, following promotion from the CCL in their first season as a ‘demerged’ club back in 2006 – having played for a dozen years as Godalming & Guildford.
- Strangely enough they were originally known as Godalming and Farncombe United. There is a team of the same name (though Athletic) playing down in the Surrey leagues.

CCLP
Camberley Town P-P Westfield – lucky I didn’t have this as ‘first’ standby – floodlight failure. :?
Hanworth Villa 3-7 {SEVEN} North Greenford United – didn’t see this one coming Villa up in 4th humbled by NGU – no details yet other than two hat-tricks for the visitors and the crowd was only 33. Stating the bleedin’ obvious but NGU evidently have goals in them as they put 8 past Chertsey only a week or so back.

Hartley Wintney 4-3 Spelthorne Sports - not seen a match report; brace apiece for Argent and Everiss for 'The Row' and they scored last - so Sports appeared to have given them quite a tussle.
Raynes Park Vale 1-1 Epsom & Ewell
CCL1
Chessington & Hook United 1-0 Dorking
Bagshot 2-3 Sheerwatercurrent leaders beaten
Aldershot Senior Cup R1
Badshot Lea 0-2 Sandhurst Town
Knaphill 2-0 Eversley & California

CCL1 Cup
Frimley G 2-2 Epson Ath FG win 4-2 on pens
Southern Comb Cup
Molesey 2-0 Cove

HELLP
Ardley United 3-1 Binfield- my chosen match but didn’t factor in that, as usual of any given evening in ‘ding, the N/S roads were absolutely f£(&ed – gave up trying v.early on and about-turned, heading SE (see above)
Brimscombe & Thrupp 1-1 Royal Wootton Bassett
Burnham 3-2 Highmoor-IbisBlues get a 2nd win in three games – still adrift but will start to believe they can scramble closer to the pack above them – which currently includes Ascot & Highmoor :o
Flackwell Heath 2-0 Ascot United
Thame United 2-0 Henley Town Thame still unbeaten and have plenty of games in hand over the leading two
Thatcham Town 3-2 Oxford City Nomads – 'Kingfishers' maintain eight point lead but would not have expected this one to be as close – presumably City had a ‘stronger’ squad available.

WESSP
Amesbury Town 0-3 Portland United
Andover Town 1-2 AFC Portchester

WESS1
Alton 4-0 Folland Sports
Tadley Calleva 4-2 AFC Stoneham
Andover Open Cup R1
Andover New Street 1-1 Overton Unitedvisitors progress 4-3 on pens

WEST1
Devizes Town 3-1 Wincanton Town

Oxford City Nomads v Highworth Town - Highworth very nearly exited the Vase in their replay on Wed evening – trailed 0-1 at home to AC London going into the last minute, when a hefty challenge saw a serious injury to a visiting CB and the game was abandoned whilst he was being attended to.
No details emerging yet of when the 'replayed' replay will be or whether the result will stand - not sure if it will be a full 90' or not though I'm sure there are precedents. ....Replacing the 17 yo who has played all other games but is at the Nike Academy trials this weekend.

Another 16 yo and 17yo also made their debuts coming on for half an hour and did well.

Windsor had other absentees so it was a bit of a makeshift 11. We weren't great but had a couple of very good penalty shouts waved away, after which their keeper turned to us with eyebrows raised and indicated he actually had no idea why they weren't given.

Thought you'd like to see the new keeper away kit. The home kit has the pink and black reversed.

Wasn't too much midweek NL action locally - a fair smattering of local League and sub-County Cup competitions - here the main matches played

Staines bt Dulwich 2-0 in the ILP
Marlow won 2-1 @ Egham in SL1 Central and move up to 5th
Ashford T were beaten 1-4 at Short Lane by Tonbridge Angels in their FA Trophy replay
Fleet Town bt Alton 4-1 in the Aldershot Senior Cup, whilst Fleet Spurs were humbled 7-1 in the same competiton by (I think) new entrants this year, the British Army side. There were also away wins for Camberley & Hartley Wintney in this Cup. Seems as if the Sh!ts may have actually slung a side in it this term too - due to go to Sandhurst - date tba.
Highworth finally prevailed over AC London on Wed night 2-1 in the FA Vase replayed replay; in front of a good sized crowd - close to 150.
- I trekked up and over to the ASM Stadium (Thame Utd) to watch a SMids Div Two game Thame Rangers (ex Oakley) put bottom side Grendon Rangers away 4-2 - a thoroughly entertaining game in which the basement side were completley outclassed individually but kept plugging away and defending stubbornly to keep the score respectable.

... late AM domestic shuffling prevented us from getting in a 'long-distance new tick'; had looked at Hythe in Kent or Redditch. Instead had to hang around waiting for youngests own match to finish - though it meant he could come out too - and headed a short-ish way round the M25 to Barnet Gate, Arkley where S.Mids Premier side Hadley now play. They have been 'lodging' at Potters Bar for a few years but now with floodlights approved and installed at ther own ground, they have moved back home.
Visitors and higher-placed Hertford won fairly comfortably - though the score was only 1-2.
Ex-Spuds legend Micky hazard is manager of the home side and was in prime NE voice at times, berating officials and calling out the visitors coach on a couple of occasions.
Was extremely chilly and the traffic there was patchy - bad delays around Handy Cross (avoiding big issues beyond M4 jn8/9) and again near gridlock right at jn23 of the Orbital where we needed to get off for the A1(M) South.

Henley Town 1-3 Highworth Town

Took in the game on Saturday. Interesting reason for game stoppage - they ran out of balls. Game delayed whilst someone crawled through the trees looking for one of the many lost ones.

Otherwise, a scoreline that didn't do an improving young Henley team justice.

2nd game i've been to at this level this year and one common theme from both - Appalling verbal abuse directed at match officials, from both players and coaching staff. Is this normal?

Very little of it in the Combined Counties League tbh.

In fact there have been a good number of yellows given for verbal backchat.

"FFS Ref!!" seems guaranteed to get a card.

HELLP
Binfield v Oxford City Nomads - watched 'Moles' progress to the last 4 of the B&B Trophy with a fairly easy 4-2 win over a very young and relatively disjointed Windsor on Monday night. Led 4-0 at half-time and could have been further ahead. Binfield eased off late on and gifted Windsor two late consolation goals. Binfield now travel to Newport Pagnell Town probably sometime in the New Year.
- went to another Q-F tie the following night down at Bottom Meadow (Sandhurst Town FC) where Bracknell Town made heavy weather of getting past Holmer Green 2-0 ; a goal apiece for the prolific pair of Burnell and Bohane. The performance was fairly laboured and against a side missing a few regulars too - eventually progressing to a Semi-Final tie at Flackwell who beat 10 man Highmoor 4-0

13:30 Langley v Marlow United
13:30 FC Beaconsfield v Richings Park

13:30 Chalvey (WMC) Sports v Sandhurst Town
13:30 Unity v Reading YMCA
13:30 Kintbury Rangers v Abingdon United FC
13:30 Westwood United v Shrivenham

- will possibly be going further afield for a 'new tick', though probably in a league we don't usually target, if we opt for the Vase. Newhaven v Ascot looks feasible but the M25 could easily scotch that. Weather forecast is also for heavy rain throughout the morning so watch for postponements should you be venturing out.

Brilliant as ever!

2 things. What did AC London do? They are a new team correct?

Also why do Brackley play in Conference north when they are pretty south?

...i) -AC London not been disclosed yet - probably disciplinary - will have a sniff about - first suggestion is related to player registration issues: - and yes they were formed only a couple of years ago (July 2012) - bankrolled by a very young tycoon (16 at the time) Prince Choudary. A bit of 'puff' from their own website:

Upon its formation, the club aimed to play semi-professional within 5 years, a feat that has never been achieved before. After 2 remarkably successful seasons, with players of high calibre, the club was ready for the step up and put in a successful application for step 6 football. The club now hope to climb the non-league pyramid as the quest for professional football goes on.

AC London have become the first non-league club to have a UEFA Pro licensed coach at their dispense as well as the youngest manager in non-league history, Prince Choudary (20) The club hope to carry on making history in the 2015/16 season.

...ii) Brackley - pretty standard geographic skew based around the higher number of STEP02 clubs coming up from the Southern area of the Pyramid - there are three STEP03 feeder leagues Ryman Isthmian, Southern and Northern Premier - hence four clubs eligible for promotion from what is generally likely to be the South and only Two from the North.

Currently National North includes Worcester, Gloucester Kidderminster, Brackley & Telford - previously clubs such as Histon, Kings Lynn Bishops Stortford and Oxford City have had spells in the Northern Section.

Windsor were very poor, but the pitch was fine. Of course it cut up a bit after all that rain, but no more than to be expected of any piece of grass.

Thing is with Windsor, we had 5 players starting who, between them, had probably amassed no more than 6 full games this season. We had 4 teenagers starting and 3 more on the bench. We had our right back playing at left back.

All these factors meant we were ripe for a stuffing and duly got one.

Much gnashing of teeth and disgruntlement from some of the core support who still think we should be in the Southern Premier League.... if they want to see a better standard of football they are going to have to wait awhile to see it at Stag Meadow on a consistent basis. Our best players will continue to get snapped up by clubs willing to pay them.
