Winchester City v Bideford

Winchester v Bideford has been postponed already - waterlogged pitch.
Given how far Bideford have to travel, it was a sensible move to call it off early.

.....expect with the amount of rain we've had this week there could be more off than on? :cry:

From Twitter, it looks like the Southern League took a sensible approach - at least 7 games were postponed yesterday, at least 2 more have already gone this morning.

Anyone looking for a game should probably start with those clubs with artificial pitches.

Non League football has lost one of its biggest characters and most committed fans.

"Dulwich" Mishi died yesterday. There are tributes on Twitter and and the Dulwich Hamlet boards for anyone who wants to look. I didn't know the guy, but the affection and respect in which he was held is clear. RIP

...fairly sure I never met the chap - but he's certainly one of the 'giants' over on NLM and the (new) forum is suitably awash with glowing remembrances and memorials. Big article on the Isthmian site too I believe - had been ill for some time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...here's today's featured games that are still ON:
NAT
Aldershot Town v Stockport County
CCLP
Ascot United v Badshot Lea (3G)
Sheerwater v Abbey Rangers - Kingfield passed INSP earlier - ON currently
CCL1
Dorking Wanderers Res v FC Deportivo Galicia (3G)
HELLP
slightly surprised at both of these - though HG is fairly close to The Gore so they're probably leaving it late to announce?
- 'Blues' twitter reported 'game on' only about 10' ago - but it's looking gloomier outside - certainly here in RG1.
Burnham v Holmer Green
Lydney Town v Brimscombe & Thrupp
HELL1E
Long Crendon v Didcot Town Development @ Oxford City (3G)
WESSEX all featured games postponed – only four in total still going ahead currently - Portchester, Hamble Club, Hamworthy and US Portsmarf.
Terrible pitch at the best of times - maybe the rain has levelled it out.
....just as surprising perhaps is that with a win, they'd elbow their way into the top Four!
... on current form can't see HG having enough about them to stop that either.
Sorry - Xmas period completely overtook me - had yesterday off (shopping - charging around after stricken better half :( !) then forgot I was working today, so lost the day I was going to use to update - here's the highlights of what was played on Saturday.
NAT
Aldershot Town 2-1 Stockport County
Maidenhead United 1-4 Barnet
NATN
Brackley Town 3-0 Curzon Ashton - Saints up to 4th
SL1-C
Barton Rovers 5-1 Kidlington
SL1-S
Cirencester Town 3-2 Basingstoke Town
CCLP
Ascot United 1-0 Badshot Lea - att 117 - 'Yellamen' scraped past Baggy Lea 1-0 in a fairly non-descript match - any excitement reportedly provided by action on the adjacent 'Straight Mile'
- BL then beat Aldersh!t U23s in the Senior Cup on Monday.
- Ascot now 1 pt behind leaders Spelthorne - having played the same number of games: go to Frimley Gn on Sat PM
Sheerwater 1-1 Abbey Rangers att 105
CCL1
Dorking Wanderers Res 6-2 FC Deportivo Galicia
HELLP
Burnham 3-0 Holmer Green - Blues up to 4th but Bps Cleeve and Binfield are both only 3 pts behind with 5 & 6 games in hand respectively.
Lydney Town 0-2 Brimscombe & Thrupp
HELL1E
Long Crendon 5-0 Didcot Town Development
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
..and here's the Boxing Day fixtures - lots of early KOs but nowhere near as many scheduled fixtures this season - particularly below STEP04.

With RFC at home in the evening it effectively scotches any grand plans I might have had for two new 'doubles'. The bugbear of the 'anorak' is the number of 13:00 KOs - which are of 'no use to man nor beast' ( nor nutter in the pursuit of a 2nd game at 15:00 :mrgreen: ) unless the grounds are virtually adjacent. :roll:

Oops - missed that sorry! :oops:

...it hadn't made it on to the official BetVictor Southern Results section late yesterday - though I was picking up the scores at a bit of a dash :? It is NOW showing as A-A - though displayed as a FT result on the 'footballwebpages' site. :roll:

...was buried away in the News Item : 'Matches that survived the Downpour : Division One South '

But, with Frome winning 2-0, the referee abandoned the game with 67 minutes gone after the rain started falling on already sodden turf.

## -'fraid not - they'd lost their previous game at home to Slimbridge. (Sat 14th) - Though they remain unbeaten away in the league. :mrgreen:

...as usual a bit pushed for time - here's the results from Boxing Day

Review 26th Dec (Boxing Day)

NAT
Notts County 3-0 Maidenhead United
Woking 0-2 Sutton United
NATS
Bath City 3-2 Chippenham Town
Chelmsford City 4-1 Braintree Town
Concord Rangers 4-1 Billericay Town
Dorking Wanderers 4-0 Eastbourne Borough
Dulwich Hamlet 1-2 Hampton & Richmond Borough att 2089
Oxford City 3-2 Hungerford Town
Slough Town 2-1 Wealdstone att 1307 Rebels close the gap to 4 points on the leaders
St Albans City 2-0 Hemel Hempstead Town
Welling United 0-3 Dartford

IL1-SC
Harlow Town 2-3 Barking
Hertford Town 2-1 FC Romania
Northwood 0-2 Chalfont St Peter

SLP-C
Banbury United 5-0 Stratford Town - Puritans up to 3rd
Kings Langley 0-1 Royston Town
SLP-S
Blackfield & Langley 0-0 Gosport Borough
Truro City 3-3 Tiverton Town 2nd v 1st
Walton Casuals 1-6 {SIX} Chesham United - Generals stay 3rd a game in hand on leaders Tivvy
SL1-C
Aylesbury United 0-0 Thame United
Kidlington 3-2 Wantage Town – ‘Freds’ have their first point of the season cruelly snatched away on 87’ – actually led 2-0 by the half hour mark
North Leigh 3-0 Didcot Town
SL1-S
Highworth Town 1-3 Larkhall Athletic
Melksham Town 4-1 Frome Town
Thatcham Town 2-1 Winchester City – att 157
- Got to this: ‘Kingfisher’ huffed a bit first half and conceded a leveller early in the 2nd but eventually found a better gear and rolled over City – Tooze up front is a real handful a great steal from Mangotsfield. Harrison Bayley back in the fold too, came on to tighten up midfield. ‘Strudders’ imperious in goal – they weren’t suffering unduly without top scorer Barcelos – with Frome’s setback Thatcham are now top.

HELLP
Windsor 2-0 Virginia Water att 209 for landlords vs lodgers
- Bundled along a soggy M4 for this 12:00 KO – told it drains much better now and they don't get as many called off in the wet
– Windsor a tad flattered by the scoreline as VW definitely had the bigger share of the 2nd half and missed countless half-chances.
- A decent ground improvement would be to put see-through glass on the eastern side of the stand – can’t see feck all sitting down that end if you are further back than the 4th row. :|

Brackley Town Saints 4-3 Easington Sports
Brimscombe & Thrupp 4-3 Tuffley Rovers
Longlevens AFC 1-1 Bishops Cleeve
Lydney Town 2-2 Westfields – att 137 ‘fields’ drop points for only the 3rd time this term.
Reading City 0-1 Binfield – JJ comes on late to pinch all the points for the Moles on 92’

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...and here's a Preview (List only sorry) for this PMs games - weather seems to have eased and there are only a few PP's announced so far among this lot.
NL Review
Sat 28th Dec
NAT
Aldershot Town 0-0 Barnet
Maidenhead United 2-0 Wrexham – att 1472 a Whitehall brace eases Magpies plight, moves them 5 pts clear of bottom 4
Torquay United 4-1 Woking - poor result for ‘Cards’ as 'Gulls' had lost their previous 5
NATN
Brackley Town 2-0 Kidderminster Harriers – Saints stay 3rd but 2nd placed York beaten at home and leaders Kings Lynn held at Alfreton
NATS
Billericay Town 1-1 Chelmsford City
Braintree Town 0-1 Concord Rangers
Chippenham Town 0-2 Dorking WanderersWanderers edge past 'Rebels' into 2nd place with this win. Still 6 pts behind leaders Wealdstone and have played 2 more than them & Slough.
Dartford 3-0 Tonbridge Angels
Eastbourne Borough 2-1 Welling United
Hampton & Richmond Borough 0-0 Bath City
Hemel Hempstead Town 1-1 Slough Town
Hungerford Town 1-3 Havant & Waterlooville
Chertsey Town 3-3 Bedfont Sports
FC Romania 1-3 Ware
Hanwell Town 1-2 South Park – surprise defeat for leaders, allows Ware to take top spot
Westfield 5-0 Ashford Town (Middx)
SLP-S
Hayes & Yeading United 0-2 Metropolitan Police
CCLP
Abbey Rangers 1-0 Cobham
Badshot Lea
Guildford City
2-1 Sheerwater
Knaphill
3-0 Camberley Town
Molesey 5-0 CB Hounslow United
Southall
Spelthorne Sports 0-0 Raynes Park Vale - leaders held as were 'Yellamen' above so no change at the top.
CCL1
Bagshot 0-0 Bedfont & Feltham
Chessington & Hook United 4-3 Tooting Bec
Cove 2-0 Sandhurst Town - Cove up to 7th
Epsom & Ewell 3-2 Westside
Farnham Town 0-2 Jersey Bulls -est. att 230+ passed an early AM inspection but the 'Bulls' were badly delayed en route, by nearly 3 hours ; putting back the 12:30 scheduled start, which upset the anoraks that had flooded to Babbs Mead in search of an improbable double.
- Bulls NOW hit the perfect 20/20 and are 27 points clear.
- Still not found out if the prolific frontman (scored the 2nd yesterday and has 12 in 17 starts) they have, is the same Harry Cardwell that we had on our books recently – was last heard of turning out for Oldham but not seen him selected for them since August – will keep looking…….
FC Deportivo Galicia 0-2 Kensington & Ealing Boro
Godalming Town 0-5 Fleet Spurs
HELLP
Ardley United 1-1 Flackwell Heath
Easington Sports 1-0 Reading City
Fairford Town 4-4 Bishops Cleeve
Holmer Green 3-6 {SIX} Binfield
Royal Wootton Bassett Town
4-2 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Shrivenham 1-3 Westfields
Tuffley Rovers 1-0 Lydney Town
HELL1E
Abingdon United [EIGHT} 8-0 Abingdon Townas covered above – abandoned at H/T as Town players refused to restart and left the ground post haste.
- some ‘rumours’ they reacted badly to club’s board members present, threatening to ‘fold the club’ if they didn’t improve. It is also being mooted on NLM that the club have said to have actually resigned from the league with immediate effect. Not backed up by their own social media yet.
- I have a vague notion some of the current squad are JMA recruits, led by another well-known local NL side’s manager’s younger brother. He has struggled to get an 11 plus subs out for the last month or more – though did win a league game at the start of the month.
- I have occasional ‘connections’ with him through work, so may try and prise some more salient points from the poor lad later this week – that’s if he’ll talk to me about it. :(
- There are several tweets appearing on the club twitter account but as yet no statement from the management team nor players – just the board regretting their actions and apologising
Chalvey Sports 0-0 Wokingham & Emmbrook
Kidlington Development 1-2 Risborough Rangers
Langley 1-3 Didcot Town Development
Marlow United 1-3 Woodley United bit of an upset on form as Marlow missed the chance to go 3rd vs strugglers Woodley
Milton United 1-2 Thame Rangers - another minor shock as 3rd placed United were beaten by lowly Rangers
...news from the Hellenic Western Div One section: Hereford Lads Club FINALLY played a home game at the FA HQ. Remaining fixtures: 6 away 14 at home! :?
WESSP
AFC Portchester 0-1 Alresford Town
Fleet Town
1-1 Horndean
Tadley Calleva 1-2 Solent University
WESS1
Alton 2-1 Verwood Town
Andover Town 1-0 Bemerton Heath Harlequins
Petersfield Town 1-3 United Services Portsmouth
Totton & Eling 0-2 Whitchurch United
- Got to IL1-North: Witham 0-5 Maldon & Tiptree – along the A12 a bit further than Chelmsford - M25 a bit &^%$ nr M40 -> Watford - arr about 10' before KO.
- Easy to see why M&T are top but quite surprising that they have now only played 13 league games to date.
- Pretty standard if rather underwhelming STEP04 corrugated-shed-cover type stadium – very low slung – two seated stands
- decent clubhouse food outlet did all the necessary quite well. No progs though – can only have printed about 2 doz.
....probably me doing a bit of 2+2=5 :lol: I knew he'd toddled off to Brighton after us (?) & a spell @ Woking ..... and assumed he'd somehow got ties to the CI s - though his ancestry is actually Jocko I think?
T'anks ... and not sure how I mixed up Oldham & Grimsby either? :mrgreen:
Here's the preview of NL fixtures scheduled for the first Day of the Year.
NOTES
i) - I've broadened the scope slightly, for any that might consider heading out further than is the norm?
I've included fixtures in the south beyond the usual featured sides.
ii) No fixtures scheduled this year below STEP04 - which I think is follows a recent trend for the last couple of seasons now. Evidently there's a higher class of hangover in the lower levels that generally precludes turning out the next morning. :mrgreen:
Chesterfield in absolute turmoil after another awful result yesterday. As I understand it, they can't afford to sack Sheridan and appear to be on a one-way ticket to the National League North. Another York City in the making, perhaps?
Round up of yesterday's NL results:
Wed 1st Jan 2020 New Years Day
NAT
Aldershot Town 3-1 Eastleigh – Sh!ts rise to 18th - a point behind Magpies with a game in hand - one of their goals by ex-Royal Craig Tanner who joined them early last month having left Motherwell.
Boreham Wood 0-0 Barnet
Bromley 3-0 Dover Athletic
Ebbsfleet United 1-1 Dagenham & Redbridge
Maidenhead United 0-0 Notts County att 1657
Sutton United {SIX} 6-2 Woking 'Cards' dropping badly out of contention now - lost 4 in 6, conceding 15
Torquay United 0-2 Yeovil Town – 'Glovers' in 2nd a point behind Barrow who have 2 games in hand
NATN
Brackley Town 1-1 Kettering Town – Reportedly the first ever league fixture between the two: 'Saints' held and slip to 4th – 'Poppies' led briefly before going down to 10 men 2nd half – both sides missed late pens – ex-Saint Nti’s effort on 80’ for Kettering saved & Brackley’s chance to bag all three points from the spot, went begging in added time.
NATS
Billericay Town P-P Concord Rangers
Braintree Town 1-2 Chelmsford City
Chippenham Town 1-3 Bath City
Dartford 4-0 Welling United
Eastbourne Borough 3-2 Dorking Wanderers
Hampton & Richmond Borough 0-3 Dulwich Hamlet
Hemel Hempstead Town 1-0 St Albans City
Hungerford Town 1-2 Oxford City
Maidstone United 2-2 Tonbridge Angels
Wealdstone 2-1 Slough Town att 1289 – Rebels trailed by two at the break – suffered only their 2nd reverse in their last 18 matches and have slipped to 5th.
Weymouth 0-1 Havant & Waterlooville
ILP
Bishop's Stortford 1-2 Kingstonian
Bognor Regis Town 0-3 Worthing att 1236
Bowers & Pitsea 1-2 East Thurrock United
Haringey Borough 2-1 Wingate & Finchley
Horsham 3-0 Lewes att 913
- Got to this with plenty of time to spare. Decent Pit-stop at White Horse, Hascomb nr Godalming
- New Build stadium on the Southern outskirts nr the A24.
- Complex P&R facility whereby a rickety old coach with ‘Fawlty Tours’ on the front chokes it’s way from an Industrial estate to another P&R closer to the ground. Maybe because it was a B/H but bewildering that THIS P&R was virtually empty.
- Decent facilities but I’m not a great fan of these new ‘flat-earth’ type stadia – a bit of elevated viewing available but essentially with a larger ‘family’ crowd like his one yesterday - you need to work hard to seek gaps: the seats invariably have some oblivious slack-minded twonk standing in front of you chatting to his mates/family/sorting his kids out.
Merstham 0-4 Folkestone Invicta – Invicta stay top clear of Worthing on GD
SL1-C
Berkhamsted 1-4 Welwyn Garden City
Didcot Town 1-1 Aylesbury United att 197
Met Bobby Wilkinson last night. Seems like a good bloke who knows non-league like the back of his hand.
