Tony Le Mesmer
mx Winchester City won 2-1 away at Cinderford tonight, and go fourth, after a couple of disappointing results lately. Taking that with the Reading result, I'm a happy bunny tonight.

More locally, Basingstoke Town got their first won at their new ground - 3-0 against Mangotsfield. Mangoes are normally competitive in this league, but they are played 6 lost 6 so far this season. Not sure what's going on there. B'stoke sold out their 400 capacity again - good for them.
Cirencester now top of Southern League South, they won 3-0.

Anyone else got a view on attendances this season? They are up at Winchester City, but not as much as I'd hoped. Current average is 193, against 164 and 167 the last couple of seasons. I don't want to bash the volunteers that run the club, but I'd like to see more being done to get people coming whilst this is the only live football available. On the bright side, there's a bunch of teenagers coming regularly now - there were 5 or 6 to start with, but now its 15/16 of them - good to see, but still a shame we can't get more local people down to a game.

I went to Binfield early in the season and they had clearly made a massive effort to get some new faces in. It won me over, i've been back and will be again for the next Saturday home game. Their average gate this season is around 200 which must surely be double that of previous seasons.

I think you are right as others just seem to be going through the motions and expecting extra fans just to turn up. A small effort will go a long way in the current climate.

200 is a decent gate given you are a step lower than us, and the ground is a bit out in the sticks. Good work by the club. Tbf, the ground looks better than ours!

Royals and Racers Off to Aylesbury Utd v Bedford on Wednesday- since 2006 the Ducks have been homeless and now play their home games at Chesham Utd`s ground the meadow. Aylesbury are currently top of the Southern league div 1 central but it`s pretty tight and a win for Bedford would see them overtake Aylesbury.

Just got back 0-0 decent crowd in i thought. Not much football played- pretty dour stuff !! Interesting starter up front for Bedford 36 year old Craig Mackail-Smith.

Attendance at Amy Lane/The Meadow given as 181

...and yeah - dodged one there :? - mix of cba-ness; wet-weather earlier and daughter's malaise .... meant I decided to sofa-it and catch the 'Bloos' and 'Prawn Sarnies' Euro-romps.

Silly really as I'd managed to wangle a h/t break from work BUT ended up going nowhere at all this week
- my original plan was to try for three games - but I felt part-obliged to stay in and support the missus - who was very concerned about our 'middle-one' whose been in quite a bad way since we brought her home from Uni late last week .... and ended up not going on a planned short-break with the two boys. At least they've got away - which is probably just as well.
I'd rather hoped to have the house to myself for a few days.....which is the norm over this Half-term.

Though I did get manage to get a bonus night's drinkinininge in on Monday and watched the Spuds game in the 'club' - was surprisingly busy too.

Anywheres - Corby's big 5-1 win tonight over Daventry, in front of a capacity crowd (400) sees them leap to the top of Southern One Central above Aylesbury and Bedford.
Is shaping up into quite an open division - much as the One South section is.
e.g. 9th placed Welwyn could go top should they win their 2 games in hand.

Weather set to be an issue tomorrow lunchtime, so keep 'em peeled for late call offs.

Combined with covid call offs and M4 closure adding to traffic through Bracknell/Handycross, its not easy at the moment! Might just stay local.

Four Of Clubs Preview of this W/E NL - double-feature Trophy and Vase:

Saturday 31st October
Winchester City v Barnstaple Town
[

OFF as things stand. Barnstaple have refused to travel due to "covid concerns"
https://barnstapletownfc.co.uk/news/cov ... ncellation

"There are two reasons for this. Firstly the club has been made aware of the decision made by Cinderford Town to postpone their match tomorrow due to Covid-19 issues. Cinderford were Winchester's opponents in midweek. Secondly, there are Covid concerns within the Barum squad with several awaiting Covid test results.

"With the above in mind, the club has put the health of its players and committee ahead of all other considerations and informed the league and the opposition of its decision."

Winchester City are furious. We should get a 3-0 out of this, but with covid, who knows what the League will do. We'd rather have played them, won 3-0 and had the matchday revenues.

This is going to happen a lot.

ETA - Bracknell get a by in the Trophy

Royals and Racers I`m off to Frimley Green v Flackwell in the Vase.

Frimley 0 Flackwell 2 for both teams in step 5 Flackwell looked a cut above the home team. Seen Flackwell twice now this season and they look a very capable team.

Thankfully we have a home game on Tuesday (assuming no-one at Winch or Evesham gets the lurgy). I normally drive to mid-week games and stay off the beer. I suspect this may not be the case for this game.

- Got over to this - was the safest/surest option of those locally that I thought would be on/last to FT (see Marlow/Burnham) – though tbf the rain more or less eased up by 14:30
- ‘Fizzers’ gave their all but came up a bit short against higher level opposition – albeit one’s who are struggling early on at the wrong end of their own league.
- NGU had bigger faster forwards and Sandhurst looked a bit feeble in the tackle where it mattered.
- Decent crowd for them though - haven't seen the official count yet - League Bulletin usually arrives on Mon/Tue
- no real changes visible at Large Lane; the far end up by the college flats (?) does seem more fenced in than before – no covered stand there any more – may have already gone before my last visit.
- Parked in Braccan Walk but there were spaces still in the Cricket club next door
- I grew up in the Town but am still totally flummoxed by the poor signage and plethora of cones & temporary fencing up around the top end of the town.
- Even the way into the ground is currently a real mystery route, with half-built bits scattered about and more temporary fencing: entry now in via where the old 'new' bar was. New turnstile block being constructed up the top /middle end of the car park
- Ground is (supposedly) cashless too
- back indoors by about 17:20 though.

Four Of Clubs 58 Sandhurst Town 2-6 North Greenford United

I did this as well, safe play. I thought i saw you (tall with hat?) on the far side 1st half and very nearly said hello. But can you imagine asking "Hi, are you FoC?" and then it wasn't? Id sound like an old cold war spy gone mad.

I was just a bit bored throughout tbh. Not been for a few years and I lets be honest its a dreadful venue to watch football. Im even surprised they are allowed to play there atm, social distancing must be impossible with 200+. I considered leaving at HT, but stuck it out until near the end.
