Bracknell Town flying high! Could it be back to back promotions? Definite chance imo.

Certainly no FA Cup distractions to be had for them.

RWBT 2-1 Windsor

M4 fcuked on Saturday for nothing more than 1/2 mile of cones taking it down to 1 lane with not a workman, van, piece of equipment in sight. Arseholes.

It added 45 mins onto journey meaning I arrived 4 mins after KO and then needed a 2 minute piss before I could watch the game!

Anyway, we hit the woodwork 5 times against RWBT a couple of weeks ago and seemed intent on doing similar this time around as well in the 1st half, but after going in 2-0 down again another comeback seemed on the cards when we got a goal back after about an hour. However a combination of good goalkeeping and our slightly under-strength team on Saturday meant we couldn’t do it for the 2nd time against RWBT.

The disappointing inconsistency (probably caused largely by zero budget and long-distance away games meaning regular player absences) means that Top 6 is as good as it can get for Windsor.

The infamous Windsor toilets.

The M4 traffic sounds like the least of your worries :)

A cracking start and with the league they're in they were always in with a decent shout of challenging again. Some very good additions to their squad puts them right up there in my book.

Heard the guy at Windsor who brings in all the academy players has gone to Egham Town as manager.

Does that mean the glorified youth team era is over?

No, I doubt it. He remains as Director at the Cox Green Academy (Day Job) and I don’t think the players coming through would be ready for Step 4 football.

It may be that there will be a slightly greased pathway from Windsor to Egham for those who make the grade in the 1st Team and that is fair enough. Rather that than sideways movement to the likes of Ascot, just coz they pay a few quid.

Was at Binfield last night to watch them play Reading City. Really weird game with Reading City running out 5-2 winners despite being down to 10 men for a lot of the 2nd half. Got no idea what happened to Binfield when Reading City went down to 10, they were pathetic and Roger got well and truly shown up by two young up and coming coaches. Bit sad to watch actually.

NAT
Maidenhead United 2-2 Bromley – 'Magpies' dropped two points here conceding 2 goals after 90’
- Hauled themselves a bit clear of bother on Tue evening though. Saw them grab all three points with a scarcely deserved 2-0 win over Eastleigh att. 1212 – both goals from Josh Kelly in quick succession right before the break.
- visitors had a lot of the play but couldn’t threaten Pentney’s goal until late on when he pulled off two very smart saves. Now ’flap’ up to 14th.
- First game I’ve attended where ‘drone’ stops play – all a bit eerie – two red lights hovering high over the ground – Ref called players to one side of the pitch and it eventually moved off after hovering again down the ‘Bell End’ :D :P – presumably some FA directive?

Wrexham 2-0 Aldershot Town - Sh!ts live on TV tonight (Wed) were losing 1-0 on 80' at Havant & W. ....... and Hawks have just scored again  - to make it 2-0 - visitors grabbed one back on 91' :? - ended 2-1
NATN
Brackley Town 2-2 Chorley – Saints led 2-0 at HT

SLP-Central
Hitchin Town 0-1 Banbury United
SLP-South
(no idea how I missed this off the preview   – I blame the SL website on F’Focus which seems to have used the same structure as last season and only has Fixctures/Results etc for one of their now two STEP03 Leagues – e.g. it ‘misses off’ the Southern League Premier – South altogether
The official SL site has too many bells and whistles in the way and you can only look at one league at a time or a sorted A-Z view of all fixtures across all four divisions.

Beaconsfield Town 0-2 Tiverton Town
Chesham United 1-1 Wimborne Town
Dorchester Town 2-1 Hartley Wintney - first set-back for HW this season
Farnborough 4-3 Weymouth – one of the Terras scorers was was Abdulai Baggie
Poole Town 0-2 Staines Town
Swindon Supermarine 0-1 Hendon
Taunton Town 0-0 Basingstoke Town
Walton Casuals 1-3 Merthyr Town
SL1-Central
Aylesbury 0-2 Sutton Coldfield Town
Barton Rovers 2-1 North Leigh
Bromsgrove Sporting 5-1 Aylesbury United
Didcot Town 2-1 Cambridge City
Peterborough Sports 4-0 Kidlington
Thame United
2-1 Yaxley
SL1S
Barnstaple Town 1-3 Highworth Town
Fleet Town 2-2 Bristol Manor Farm - hosts led with a goal on 87’ but had a win snatched away when BMF levelled on 94’
Larkhall Athletic 2-0 Thatcham Town - Kingfishers beaten midweek in their FA Cup replay 2-3 at Bemerton nr Salisbury – were 3 down at HT – second half goals from Cooper Clark and James Tennat not enough. Harlequins have an unenviable task of a trip to Taunton in the next round on Saturday.

- Elsewhere Diddy and Supermarine negotiated midweek their replays successfully – 'Railwaymen' trek up to Wingate & Finchley whilst, SS by some geographical quirk, host Eastern Counties side Woodbridge?

Winchester City 2-2 Melksham Town – Citizens 2nd but only on GD behind surprise leaders Yate – Highworth sit mid-table; Thatcham and Fleet near the foot – indeed 'Kingsfishers' only win so far is their home win (6-0) over Fleet

CCLP
Banstead Athletic 1-1 Walton & Hersham – Athletic are early leaders but probably because they have played as many as three games more than nearly everybody else in this division

Camberley Town 2-0 Sutton Common Rovers - Cambo pick up their 2nd league win
Horley Town 0-0 Badshot Lea
CCL1
Dorking Wanderers Reserves 0-0 Farnham Town

HELLP
Flackwell Heath 0-0 Longlevens
Royal Wootton Bassett Town 2-1 Windsor
Tuffley Rovers 1-2 Brackley Town Saints
Virginia Water 2-2 Wantage Town - Freds drop first points but were down to 10 men – keeper sent off on 30’ came back from 2-1 to pinch a point progressed last night (Tue) in the FA Cup beating Slimbridge 1-0 in a replay - travel to Hellenic rivals Bps Cleeve in the next round.
HELL1E
AFC Aldermaston 1-5 Didcot Town Development – bit of a set-back but they roared back on Tue night with a 3-2 win over Woodley, to take over top spot from Thame Rgrs
Abingdon Town 2-1 Chalvey Sports
Burnham
4-2 Wokingham & Emmbrook att: respectable 81 for this level
Chinnor 0-2 Thame Rangers

- Plenty more played this midweek too
- As OMA posted : Binfield thumped 2-5 at Stubbs by Reading City – I toddled along too – the crowd reportedly 242 – witnessed the ‘Mitch Parker Show’ – (one of the few remaining at City from the H/I squad) - scored 4 and made the other with a sublime free-kick. Plenty of ex-Thatcham in their line-up. Chris Grace recently arrived from Bracknell between the stocks for the 'Moles'

- The Racecourse Ground saw a big win for the ‘Yellamen’ 4-0 over Holmer Green
- Brimscomb put 6 past Ardley who scored 4 themselves
- Ab Utd won 2-1 over at Fairford
- Flackwell slipped up surprisingly at home to Shrivvy 1-2

WESSP
Horndean 5-0 Andover New Street - still no points for ANS at this level...... :(
WESS1
Andover Town 4-5 Petersfield Town - ditto ATFC on 0 points - but I assume they must have come close to a point in this goal fest?
United Services Portsmouth 2-2 Alton

Four Of Clubs Round up from last w/e and a few snippets from midweek chucked in
(bit late soz - Mrs FoCcers spending too much time playing Spider Solitaire for me to get on and provide review  )

Saturday 1st September

[
Winchester City 2-2 Melksham Town –[i] Citizens 2nd but only on GD behind surprise leaders Yate –

I went to this. Decent game, entertainment wise, between two unbeaten teams.

Our manager called it a game of four halves. Melksham were all over us from kick off. We were 2-0 down after 15 mins and fearing a hammering. After that, though the rest of the first half was ours and we were unlucky to only score one before half time. Second half kicked off and again it was all Winch, and we got the equaliser eventually.
After that it swung back to Melksham. Game could have gone either way in the end, winch probably edged it, but I'm biased, and 2-2 was probably a fair result. Melksham will be in the top 8 or so all season, on that showing.

The talk in the clubhouse was that they have money behind them - new ground, £3k a month playing budget. No idea whether that is bollocks or not, but they are a decent side, with some big bastards up front and at the back. They also have a player who can put throw ins into the six yard box from the half way line.

Still, we are positive at Winch this season, 2nd in the table and through to the first qualifying round of the cup. Word is we could do with a win in the cup at Frome on Saturday to top up the coffers as our playing budget is down this season and stretched.

Another trip to the bloody West Country tomorrow to see Windsor take on Tuffley. Not missed a game yet and I’m sure come midday I’ll be looking forward to the drive.... (maybe).

Good to see Josh Kelly starting to notch for Maidenhead. I’ve followed his development since he played for Old Windsor Tigers as a 9 year old with my son. Josh was streets ahead of all the other lads and has, without taking off dramatically, made steady improvement for the last 10 years so hopefully that will continue. He’s quick, and a good finisher - hope he makes it as a pro.

F.C. Romania v Soham @ Bedfont Sports ? How did that happen, F.C. Romania is based in Cheshunt which is about 30 miles away from Bedfont (and Soham is about 100 miles away from there)!

Cheshunt have a home FA Cup game on the Saturday & apparently Spurs Ladies are down to play there on the Sunday. Therefore FC Romania had to find another ground to play this round at.

Tuffley 3-6 Windsor

Didn’t go in the end - kinda wish I had now!

In Windsor news, Keaton August has moved on to Chalfont St Peter.

Glad to see the back of him tbh. Show pony with occasional flashes but not brave enough, not disciplined enough and squeals every time he’s touched.

Wonder kid my arse.

Saw Slough beat Oxford City 2-0. Thought Slough were the better side throughout and should have had a couple before Oxford had their captain sent off for a debatable professional foul just before half time.

Impressed with their Lee Togwell, James Dobson and Matty Edwards (?, the no. 9). Thought Oxford were a good well organised if a bit limited side destined for a lower mid table finish but was impressed with their keeper’s performance (and that of their no 10, Kyan ?Wiltshire?). Think Slough might be good enough for top 10 based on yesterday.

Unconvinced by the referee, wasn’t quite sure he called the red card right and thought Slough had a better shout for a penalty in the second half then the one they got early in the first half.

...round up from a busy w/e:

Saturday 8th September

FA Cup 1st Qualifying Round

041 Leverstock Green 0-0 Hadley
042 St. Neots Town 2-1 Bishop's Stortford
043 Burnham 1-0 Bury Town – ‘Blues’ shock another higher ranked side to earn a fairly daunting trip over to Billericay in 2Q :?
044 Cambridge City 3-4 Brightlingsea Regent
045 Aylesbury United 0-0 Marlow
- Was at this on Sun PM – close fought stalemate – plenty of full-blooded challenges and minor niggles throughout; might make for a very feisty re-match tomorrow night (Tue 11th)
- my first 0-0 for about 60 NL matches

046 Heybridge Swifts 2-0 Newmarket Town
047 Hanwell Town 2-1 Potters Bar Town

- Got up to this one – fairly drizzly day and the journey is long if you stick to A roads to avoid M’way ‘conedom’.
- Two sides at the same level but visitors overpowered; though played the neater football.
- Ground quite a way north west of Corby up nr Rockingham on the A6003 – their former ground is still in use next door. Corby now play in ‘Steel Park’ which has also had Kettering as short-term lodgers back in 2012, following their brief and ill-advised venture over to Nene Park - once that was vacated by the defunct R&D

Go on Binfield!!! Would love to see them get to the first round proper but will never ever happen. They have about another 15 qualifying rounds to get through first and that just isn't happening.
