Hungerford 1-1 Maidenhead
Bobby Wilkinson sent off, Tarpey misses a late pen
Alan Devonshire less than gracious on BBC Berks tonight....in fact, he came across as a right whingeing bitter twat.

I'm really not surprised after listening to what BW had to say. The bloke did nothing but hurl a tirade of abuse as the Linesman and Referee during the game resulting in a belated sending off. It didn't stop then either. He then uses the media to act out the victim. He's the Neil Warnock of the NLS.

AD on the other hand just bit his lip as a lot of decisions went against his team and got on with his job as usual.

Windsor 2-2 CB Hounslow

Another disappointing result in a game that lacked quality but Windsor played most of the 2nd half with 6 teenagers which is good progress of a kind.

Windsor
2-2 CB Hounslow United
CCL1
Bagshot 3-0 Cove
Banstead Athletic 4-0 Dorking - Banstead are currently league leaders but their pitch was said to be suffering from over-use (they have the ambitious AC London as lodgers at Merland Rise).
Visitors Dorking, are supposedly sitting on football's equivalent of 'death-row'. It has been announced they could fold at the end of the season, after a long history (original club founded 1880 but I think the current set-up's links to that club could be regarded as tenuous.) Had a bit of a golden period in the early 1990's where they climbed as high as the Isthmian Premier.
Fallen gradually to STEP06 and recently forced to play in exile at Horley for a couple of seasons - having had a dispute with the town/district council over the use and condition of the stadium in Dorking, I believe it was subject to a long running & bitter Court Case.
They now currently lodge with their much loftier neighbours (Dorking Wanderers) from just up the hill (A24) at Westhumble. Their previous ground down in the town (Meadowbank) has eventually been much upgraded and will be ready for use 17/18.
Wanderers by contrast have had a meteoric rise up from the nether regions of the Sussex Leagues, where they appeared after a brief founding spell in the even lower West Sussex Leagues, only having been formed in 1999. They enjoyed a few succesive promotions and currently sit 2nd in Isthmian One South - having been runner-up last term. A few months back Dorking W. announced they will be moving in there (Meadowbank), with their older 'sibling' club being absorbed/dissolved as a result of the move.

Chessington & Hook United 3-1 South Park Reserves - C&H have come galloping out of the pack from some distance behind, to grab 2nd spot. Surprisingly, given their groundshare problems and the former horrendous reputation of the surface at Chalky Lane, they are ahead of the rest of the league on games played. Usually they really struggle to fit their matches in by the end of April, having had so many postponements. At one point last year, they suffered a fire at the clubhouse and the Fire Brigade then managed to flood the pitch putting it out!

Cobham 0-2 Eversley & California
Farleigh Rovers 0-4 AC London
Redhill 2-2 Frimley Green - good performance from an improving FG, against a side in 3rd place pushing hard for auto-promotion on a run of 8 straight wins. Looks very much as if the top three will finish as they are, so large is the gap back to 4th placed Bagshot.

Sheerwater 5-1 Epsom Athletic
Staines Lammas 2-1 Ash United
Worcester Park 2-4 Balham

HELLP
Ardley United 0-1 Lydney Town
Burnham 2-4 Brimscombe & Thrupp
Flackwell Heath {SIX} 6-1 Oxford City Nomads – Heathens bounce back after their chastening defeat at Thame in midweek
Highmoor-Ibis 2-4 Thatcham Town
Highworth Town 1-2 Bracknell Town - Robins re-take top-spot goals from Bohane and Cornell but reportedly Highworth made it tough for the leaders much as expected.
Royal Wootton Bassett 3-1 Longlevens AFC
Tuffley Rovers 1-1 Binfield
HELL1E
Chalfont Wasps 1-1 Headington Amateurs
Chinnor 3-0 Wantage Town Res
Didcot Town Res 4-2 AFC Aldermaston

Re: The Non - League thread

by Four Of Clubs » 02 Mar 2017 15:05

... fair amount of NL action this midweek gone - in spite of the downpours - though none for me: onset of *&^%ing lurgy kept me sofa-bound - still at least I picked up some huge 'lulz' at the 'Dippers' being flattened by the 'Filberts' (Lucas at CB vs Vardy yeah tactical genius there JK) and the Geords downing the 'Seaweed' late on at the Amex.
Blue Mancs looked gd vs 'Udders Reserves too.....

...(cough) anywho back to NL ....

NAT
- Sh!ts drew 1-1 at Eastleigh who finally remembered how to score a goal, now MadDog has been moved on.
- Woking picked up a good three points with a 1-0 win over PO hopefuls Dover - that hauls them out of the bottom four.
Leaders Lincoln surprisingly dropped two points at home to bottom club York, for whom that slender ace Jon Parkin put down his cow pies long enough to nudge one in.
NATN
Brackley scored two very late goals to see off Kidderminster - Saints now sit comfortably mid-table.
NATS
- only four games here and not involving our featured clubs - Whitehawk beaten 1-4 by Hemel; Wealdstone win 3-0 at StAlebuns; Welling & Dartford drew a blank and bottom club Margate lost 0-2 at home to 5th placed Chelmsford - not good news for Hungerford who now sit four points behind them having played a game more.

Southern - Premier
Basingstoke put 5 past Dunstable - the first a pen on 50 mins; Chesham lost 2-0 at 2nd placed Leamington.
Southern One Central
Fleet Town lost the big N.Hants derby 1-2 to Farnborough all the goals before HT - close to 300 crowd too. Egham won 3-0 at Potters Bar; leaders Royston bt Northwood 2-1 and are 11 points clear of 'boro.
Southern One S&W
- not a great return for our clubs here - Diddy went down 1-2 at the Loop to Shortwood - Winchester were held 0-0 by Bideford - does neither side any favours in their chase for the top five and the the Freds (Wantage) were as expected no match for high-flying Taunton losing by three clear goals - at least an improvement by 2 from last term.

CCL - mostly Cup action only two league games beat the weather. Hanworth Villa drew back level with Westfield with a 2-1 win on the carpet at Gander Gn Lane v SCR. They have played 3 games more and are 15 goals worse off though.
Knaphill stopped a poor run of recent form, sharing 4 goals with Bedfont Sports - who are having their own ground upgraded this month and appear to be having home matches at their next door neighbours, Bedfont & Feltham.

HELLENIC - Premier - again only two league games with issues at the bottom being affected by Nomads narrow 4-3 defeat at Brimscomb and Henley's chances of escaping the probable drop, diminished rapidly with a heavy reverse 4-1 at relegation rivals Brackley Saints
Highmoor's interest in the Reading Senior (Invitation ) Cup ended with a 0-2 humbling by TVL-P side Woodcote Row @ Rivermoor; Binfield edged past Holyport at Summerleaze in the same competition.
There was a Div One East match played at Ardley FC - Woodley Utd sharing the points with lodgers Bicester.

WESSEX of our featured clubs Andover Town lost at Bournemouth in the Premier and Alton went down to a surprisingly heavy loss 5-2 at Folland

Slough keeper taken to hospital with a suspected broken neck. He's tweeting so hopefully its not too serious. Bit of a reminder how its just everyday lads doing what they love and risking injury that could put them out of work for a while.

Do we have any idea which matches were postponed owing to the weather and how many were affected by the referees' 'industrial action'?

...fairly certain all of the one's I reported as P-P on our featured list were off due to weather.
- the strike may have been localised around the Manc area for yesterday and the NL Forumites also seemed to think it would be mainly the Sunday Leagues that would be hardest hit on a national basis this w/e.

Just to re-inforce this perhaps - and I cannot be definite - but the Reading Sunday League fixtures today (5th March) have a very large number of Postponements listed (indeed ALL matches OFF bar three - and NO results posted from this AM) so that might be the strike taking effect -
- usually the league puts something on its Home Page on FullTime though - if that were to have been the case?

Yep, Mark Scott got clattered by ex-Royal Nana Owusu when he went to collect a loose ball. No intent to injure, thank goodness, but then a 35 minute delay while an ambulance was called. Initially some of the Basingstoke Town fans behind the goal he was defending appeared to be suggesting that he was faking it (apparently some other BTFC fans asked them to pipe down and were told to fukk off, classy).
Anyway the game resumed with an outfield player in goal as Slough have no reserve keeper at the moment. He did okay, but in truth Scott would have kept a clean sheet. Basingstoke poor, their full-time experiment is not working. Slough march on, play-offs looking likely, but obviously a broken bone in the keeper's neck is more important. Get well soon Scotty.

Basingstoke Town seem to be in a bit of a pickle - talk of giving up The Camrose at the end of the season with no new ground ready or share identified.

Worrying times.

Magpies win 1-0 at PO hopefuls Chelmsford tonight (Monday) thanks to a Tarpey pen in 1st half stoppage time - Maidenhead now a point clear at the top.
Binfield were due to play at home to Henley in the Hellenic Prem this evening but it was postponed due to waterloggiing.

... not that many games scheduled for this midweek and those that are mostly local league and sub-county cup ties:

Highmoor IBIS host fellow strugglers Brackley Saints in the Hellenic Premier; Camberley, Chertsey and Westfield are at home in the CCLP with Ash hosting Eversley in the lower division.

Both Hants Senior Cup Semi-Finals take place tomorrow (Tue) with Basingstoke hosting Winchester and Hartley Wintney welcoming AFC Bournemouth (Hampshire ?? :? )

Fleet Town meet Sandhurst in the Aldersh!t Senior Cup Q-F.

In the Southern League S&W Diddy play Taunton at the Loop and Nor Lye meet Mangotsfield. In the Central section two fairly local tussles are scheduled Egham v Beaconsfield and Marlow travel a short distance up the M40 to Hanwell. In the Premier section Chesham are at home to Frome whilst HandY trek down to Daaarset to visit Dorchester.

Yep AFC Bournemouth play in Hampshire Senior Cup, entered at the second round stage this season. Hampshire Senior Cup allows entries from Dorset, Wiltshire and IOW. I guess all are by some local agreement. Newport (IOW) FC for example are affiliated to IOW FA which is a division of Hampshire FA.

Bournemouth Poppies also play in HSC

Anyway Basingstoke Town (Firsts) v AFC Bournemouth (Firsts) in the final

.... looks like we're risking Orbital/A12 again and aiming to get a 'new tick' at Heybridge Swifts v Haringey Borough in the Isthmian One North. Hosts got close to STEP02 about 10 years ago but lost a play-off S-F to Hampton & R - have dropped back to STEP04 where they have remained w/o much distinction, losing another S-F Play Off in 13-14 season. Their visitors are currently chasing a Play-Off spot themselves - this is only their 2nd season at this level. They have the distinction of actually playing on White Hart Lane. Their Coles Park stadium has been the subject of much criticism over the last few years - I think they have invested heavily in bringing it up to the standard required. Certainly when I went there in their Spartan South Mids days, it was little more than a half-built/half-derelict brick strewn dump. Great testimony to the clubs' supporters and officials efforts to develop it; not least the playing surface itself, which gained a reputation for being regularly unusable throughout the winter months - causing Borough to play a lot of 'home' matches elsewhere

My uni coach was a player at Haringey borough few years ago. We actually used their old yellow kit for uni games, confused the hell out of opposition.

How come some teams are in black FoC?

Also what team/s do you think out of any (top or bottom leagues) that could break through into the leagues ala Fleetwood and Burton?

Also how many ground in your list have you been to? Have you been to many league ones?

Covered before back in the annals of this thread - BUT understandably I wouldn't expect anyone to trawl back through hours of my drivelling rambles

... as a general rule (loosely and somewhat random in consistency) BOLD TYPE clubs are what I consider to be 'local' to Reading - roughly within an hours drive and usually outside the M25 - though with couple of obvious W.Lahnden exceptions there. I tend to try and provide a bit of comment about these in no particular order of importance nor geography - just as the news takes my fancy as it were.

I don't watch much at the top end of the Pyramid so can't really comment on whose likely to emerge as a 'new' FL club. FGR seem to be on the cusp of something and Eastleigh certainly made a charge until hitting the buffers big time earlier this season. All other serious contenders to make it to the FL are generally in large group of former League clubs. Of the top half only FGR, Dover & Bromley are NOT in this category.

- a lot of clubs in the National and most in the National North are over 2-3 hours drive away so I'd only consider going to them for 'special' occasion type trip. However after about what must be nearly 30 years of NL 'hopping', I have covered most of my 'targetted' leagues - which include all of those featured above plus the Western and South Mids.
I've also inadvertently picked up a few ex-Kent and ex- Sussex League teams along the way - often in Vase games but including those that have dropped down from the Southern/Isthmian.

As a rough total I'd say this amounts to about 400 clubs of which I think I'm close to the 350 mark and most of these left to do now, are probably 2 hours or more distant, so may take me a good while yet.

I've also picked up a fair number of ticks within even lower sub-STEP07 leagues: N.Berks, E.Berks, Oxford Senior, Surrey Elite, Thames Valley and Hants Premier but notworked up a total yet.

Similarly not done a proper count of the 92 either - done a fair number about half - but obviously not too many oop north over the years.
