Guess which ground won ground of the year in the Hellenic League as awarded by Football in Bracknell Awards?

Rivermoor / Scours Lane home of Reading City.

Jeez, they’ve spent a bit of money on it but it’s still shithole.

guess that *some of it may be based on the hard work and welcome of the staff and maybe the ambiance? (i use that term loosely)

Their car park leaves a lot to be desired tbf

Normally 1st week of July I think but depends on the final make up of the divisions at those steps having been ratified in time.

...seems to be an unenforceable FA diktat stating clubs cannot stage PSFs before 1st July - but I suspect it's advisory - though I have also read claims, that a couple have been cancelled this W/E due to the 'ruling'.

Haven't checked comprehensively but a couple of local games may appeal - best check venues and I suspect they are little more than training exercises e.g. 4 x 20' etc rolling subs Double headers with Reserves or mixed squads etc...

Reading City v Marlow
Burnham v Camberley KO 15:00 The Gore
Lyne v Ascot - the 'home' side are supposedly lodging with the Yellamen next term in their first season up at STEP07 (Surrey Elite) I think their main venue is nr Chertsey?

...I'll post more details and other games should I find them.

...finding just enough to do thanks :D - updating the records ready for next season - all the new teams/venues and groundshare changes into STEPS 1- 9 and beyond in some cases - when announced - then changing them all cos teams appeal, appear or disappear!

Hellenic Divs One are looking positively robust - East & West sections bundling along of late, with barely a dozen clubs each - now both up near 18 - and getting a lot of ordure from the Anorak-liveried Pyramid Stasi.

Some/Plenty don't like the way this League have ridden roughshod over the constitutional guidelines from the FA and randomly plucked sides from local County leagues or adjacent STEP06s to bolster up their 2nd tier.

...so yeah plenty to be getting on with - and it's not as if the cricket's up to much either :( , what with 'Morgan's Misfits' comfortably proving the media and bookies wrong and Derbyshire habitually lurching from shit to shitter!

Better half is 'laid up' with dodgy leg - so I've wangled a few 'wfh' days recently - ostensibly to care for her - though all three kids are around to help too
- two of them working during the day and the other loafing about now his GCSEs are over. We've shared the running up and downstairs for the invalid role.

Will start taking a closer look at Pre-Season in a week or three - once the proper 'friendlies' start being arranged/confirmed.

News from Basingstoke. All still subject to league approval, but hopefully this will bring a few quid in for Winchester City. Note that BTFC have a "big" friendly against Luton Town, scheduled to be played at Winchester City, presumably regardless of the league's approval.

BTFC - just an utter mess. No vision, no funding, no support, no direction and it all appears rushed. They are literally operating like and will have facilities of a Wessex League Team. Shambolic. To think 3 years ago they were literally 1 kick from getting into the National Conference.

the Reading u23 squad often have a nice array of localish pre seasons. I always use it as a reason for visiting some new non league grounds.

The only one scheduled seems to be Salisbury this year :(

After 3 years Barry Hayles has left Windsor to take up the No 2 role at Merstham.

Playing still?

And btw, fair play to him, sticking around at the same club at that level for so long (you, of course being a supporter, might say otherwise).

Can’t believe he will play at Merstham, who are 2 levels higher than Windsor I believe.

He is a good guy and will be missed, but not so much on the pitch. He could do some good stuff and is remarkably quick for a guy of 47, but had lost the goal-scorer’s instinct of when to shoot, it was almost like he had the yips at times.

Maidenhead have A bit of a hellish start in the National League. After an opening day trip to Stockport they play Chesterfield then Hartlepool at home, then travel to Torquay, have Bromley at home and then they’re off to Yeovil.

Hungerford start out at Hemel then face Slough at home (Slough start at home to Dorking).

On 17 Aug Bracknell start out at Chipstead while Marlow are at home to Barking

Southern League fixtures, FA Trophy and FA Cup draws due on 12 July

Yep, that's the plan. Should bring us in a few quid. I guess the bar/burger van takings will be ours and they'll be paying us some rent.

Basingstoke T v Winchester C is scheduled for 26 August - bank holiday. Will Basingstoke Town's new ground be ready by then, or do we get to play it on our ground? Interesting one. I guess the sporting thing to do would be to switch the fixtures, but, nah. Perhaps the league will step in?
