Uruguay-Holland [Official Thread]

by Archie's penalty » 06 Jul 2010 01:00

So the build-up starts here folks. Predictions?

I really want Uruguay to win so I'm going to go 2-1 them. Holland are defensive and negative whereas Uruguay have gone for it all the way through the world cup.

Would be happy to see a Uruguay-Germany final - with Suarez getting the winner with a penalty...

Holland 2 > Brazil 1 > Uruguay 0
So, Holland 2- 0 Uruguay!
Then, I believe Germany will defeat Holland in the final. .....Sorry that I have gone too far.

Archie, your starting the Uruguay-Holland thread at 1am on the day of the match (just to sure of being the one to do so) and then labelling it 'Official' (I know it's a running gag now, or I hope it is) has me swinging to the 'Archie's Penalty is a complete spa' camp.

Netherlands all the way for me, would love them to win the World Cup.

If it ain't Dutch, it ain't much.

I have a feeling that Holland may go to town, particularly with Lugano being out.

3-0

Got a lot of money on Holland. So I can see a bottle job coming up here.

Uruguay to get 10 men behind the ball and nick it 1 - 0 aet.

Have you watched the tournament? Holland have been negative and Uruguay attack. Why would they play defensively now? Part of me thinks they might bottle it on the big stage though. Holland have not impressed me.

It's called staying up very late due to my thesis and thinking ahead. The official thread thing is of course bollocks.

Archie - Uruguay have very good forwards, but quite often they opt for a defensive approach. Witness their 0-0 with France, and the way they played at 1-0 and 2-1 up against South Korea. It's hard to know how the loss of Suarez will affect them, but it wouldn't really be surprising if their primary approach tonight would be to stop the Dutch scoring early, and look to Forlan and Cavani to nick goals on the break/at set pieces.

Holland's defence is suspect, Uruguay could open them up I reckon

Very good points Baines. Was just thinking back to the France game. Will be interesting to see how they cope without Suarez. Uruguay haven't wilted under pressure yet. Whatever happens it's a great success for them. Whether this means they'll play without fear or not is anyone's guess.

I called the Dutch to win the while thing before the start of the tournament so on the basis that I want to be able to say "I told you so", I'm going 2-0 Holland.

Sneijder and v Bommell have been immense so far and its about time Robben and v Persie joined them.

van Bommel seems to get very little praise, both in this World Cup and club football where I think he's been excelling for the last season or so (from the little I get to see at least).

I think it'll be a Holland v Germany final which will make it a great spectacle but perhaps not as pretty as any game involving the Spanish.
