Walcott to Utrecht on loan

by Cypry » 23 Jan 2012 21:08

Not sure where to put this, probably doesn't deserve its own thread but never mind...
Dutch acquaintance pinged me this evening - seems the Utrecht fans have got whisper that Jacob Walcott might be heading there on loan....

Not likely, Utretch are pretty decent...why would they want someone who is like 8th choice at a championship club in england? He's been on loan to some other random dutch team and managed a 1 in 7 scoring record.

He's been played as a striker and a midfielder. And we both know he's not up for playing for someone who challenges the top 4 in holland...he can't even get onto the reading bench in the championship.

Spent the second half of last season on loan at Telstar in the Eerste Divisie (2nd tier) and played 14 times. Utrecht are currently 14th out of 18 teams, wouldn't be a massive surprise if he did go.

According to my mate (a Utrecht fan) they lost 5 or 6 key players in the Summer and are struggling both financially and in the table. Given that he's "known" to the Dutch through the Telstar loan this wouldn't surprise me, and it'd be a bit random for some Utrecht fans to pluck his name out of the air....not like he's a household name over there.....
Suspect there might be something in this, it's a step up for him, and can only be good for his development....

Hope its true, great for Jacob as well as Reading, even if he only gets to warm the bench.....

He's supposed to be very fast, but hasn't had a sniff of the first team yet.

But he's only 19 and has been involved in the International setup for a while now - I saw him in the friendlies against Woking and Farnborough in the Summer and he looked pretty good - one to watch and I suspect that this could be quite a good move for him if it's true....

Walcott cousin on trial at Utrecht

UTRCHT - FC Utrecht this week Jacob Walcott from England on trial. The 20-year-old wing is from Reading FC, which opens the second highest level in England (Championship). Walcott training this week and it is in action Tuesday against Young Utrecht Elinkwijk promise in the alternative league.

Jacob Walcott

"We were not looking," said technical director Foeke Booy on the website of the club. "But we see if this player could be an enhancement. And if it does, it costs very little because he is transferred Fri "Walcott, cousin of Arsenal player Theo Walcott, played a few games last year in the Netherlands for MVV in the Jupiler League.

It actually looks like he's gone on trial with a view to a perm deal. Artical also suggest that he's available on a free transfer??

He did impress whilst at Telstar last year but I wouldn't think he's ready to play at this level. Basically the coach is saying might be worth a punt.

Not entirely sure why Reading are looking at getting rid of him. He looked useful and extremely quick on the two occasions I saw him last year

Does look that way doesn't it....given that he's behind McAnuff, HRK, Kebe, Antonio and Obita it might just be that he's ended up surplus to requirements....
