TheSiege
Big Ern
TheSiege We could have bought Zaha in the last window. Whatever we paid, we would have made a huge profit when we sold him on - if we chose to. RFC are a business as well as a football club, to have a brilliant up-and-coming player in the squad In the sure knowledge that we will not lose should we sell him on, is a no-brainer!

No we couldn't. Far more to it then a straight transfer fee. You really struggle to understand how football works sometimes.

Yes we could! Though now, with the pinnacle clubs all looking at him, he has gone beyond our financial ability. Also, although this thread is officially about three players, there are other highly-rated players, who could have made us more of a Prem. team, who we also missed out on.

As for an understanding of how football works financially, I have seen some of your past posts. Nuff said!

What posts, can't remember commenting too much about financials? Maybe I did on Planet Siege

with regards to signing these three players, then no we couldn't. One of the reasons we didn't persist more with the actual fee for Zaha was the demands being made by the player. It would have dad a dextrimental effect on the current players. You may say the Pog get more than anyone else, but he is not a young hopeful, he has proved what he can do.

Of the three palyers, the only realistic one was Clyne, and he wasn't our top target for RB so stop working yourself up into a froffong rage over 2 players we never stood a chance of getting and one we were not that keen on.

Unfortunately outside planet siege and back in the real world, things are not that simple.

I doubt we'll sign any home players for cash in Jan, generally too expensive. Our squad is very balanced, so where do you start? Our wide options are very good. Not many clubs outside the top 4 have a player of McCleary's quality on the bench. If we add to the squad, they'll be players you've never heard of, at least 'til the summer.

Easy, Easy,
Jobi is statistically doing the business with assists - ok
But
Kebe is the same Kebe we've always known, Blows hot and cold, unplayable or anonymous
McCleary is not doing enough to warrant a starting place, as evidenced by McDermott's selections
As is HRK, who, like Church, does not appear to be improving enough, season on season, to force their way into being an automatic first choice.

Chelsea, Liverpool, Everton, West Brom, QPR, Norwich, Swansea, Southampton, West Ham?

(That's over half the clubs who weren't in last season's top four and aren't Reading)

TheSiege Talk is that Arsenal will lose Walcott to a team who will pay him obscene amounts more than he is really worth and replace him with Zaha. So glad we did'nt buy him in the Summer - NOT!

Corrected for both accuracy and my increasing sense of disillusionment with this sport.

Doesn't mean too much yet... puts him in the same illustrious group as Bothroyd and Nugent, both of whom have never justified a high transfer fee.

Potential =/= ability, and right now we need proven ability.

We actually had a shot at getting Zaha... :(

Edit: No worries, we have Obita.

Guardian carries an interview with Zaha today. Also refers to £6m deadline day bid from Reading.

So we allegedly bid £6 mill for zaha, but now people claim we have no money to spend in January. I'm confused, easily done.....
