Arnie_Pie Have they flown back to pay whatever it takes for a proper Premiership striker like Defoe?

Here's hoping. Anyone who thinks that Pogrebnyak/Hunt/Roberts/Church is going to cut the mustard as a top flight strikeforce is utterly deluded.

Indeed quite an ommision in regards to Alfie. He's not exactly a Rob 'Hardly ever going to hit a barn door' Hulse is he. Alfie clearly has an eye for a goal, has shown it already in various leagues and there's no reason why he cant do it in the premiership. If a 'washed up' Holt from Norwich can impress then i think we owe some sort of loyalty to our top goalscorer from last season. The mixture of Pogrebnyak/Roberts/Alfie is a decent one and each have different attributes. Granted there are question marks over the impact of Hunt and Church and a 4th striker to add to the trio above would be fantastic but a little harsh on either Roberts or Alfie- if we end up with A Defoe fantastic but if Brian keeps the status quo then fair enough. I would be inclined to move Hunt on, a good servant and popular player but his lack of goals counts against him and he does go missing in games. Im no Fan of Church but Mcdermott clearly still values him and it might pay to have him involved and perhaps eat my own words about him. Personally I would like an option of creativity in midfield especially if we decide to go 4-5-1, someone like Koren.

Forget Defoe, lets get Les Davies from Bangor City FC, one of the best players in Europe. Feed the Truck and he will score.

TheSiege Is this thread still going on? I would love to have the guy as I have said in the past but, who on earth thinks that it is likely to happen? If we do add another striker, which may happen, he will be someone who can spread his wings at RFC - not someone who's wings have already been clipped!

Whose.

After the goal he scored last night, I just can't see us in the hunt for Defoe if he became available. His wages would probably be extortionate, and he would probably be wanting to join a GUARANTEED top 8 club. I am not being pessimitic, I just can't see it happening at this time.

its not going to happen, friday's legacy already posted something about him wanting 60k a week and we wouldnt pay him more than our top earner(40k). he deservedly could ask for 60k a week though so its not like hes being ridiculous. hell probably end up going to a top 8 club though, your right on that.

Guys come on, he's Tottenham's only striker at the moment. He's not going anywhere.

I'm sure Spurs will get in at least 2 top strikers before the window closes which will push Defoe out of the first team picture, so I'm certain he'll be moving on within the next couple of weeks, even if only on loan.

I am dreaming that it might be Reading, but realistically we are likely to be way down the pecking order, that's assuming we are willing to match the wages etc.

Let's just wait for the transfer merry-go-round to begin at Spurs and see what happens...

From the Times -

Defoe nears exit as Spurs target Damião

England striker looks set to leave White Hart Lane as the club line up the Brazilian forward to partner Emmanuel Adebayor.

Long shot still I know.

I'm not so sure this is the end of this yet, it's most likely that he will continue to feature for Spurs but it might be the case that Spurs are willing to loan him out if they can get the players in they want and tying him down to a deal will mean he can't walk away on a free at the end of the loan. Just a thought!
