72 bus
bracksroyal10 Cole would be a decent signing for us given the right value there is no denying it I would be more than happy to have him especially as inevitably there will be periods where the Pog goes cold.

The stats deny that he would be a decent signing
260 games scoring 57 goals over a ten year career is shocking, a goal every 4.5 games, 6 goals per season

Would be interesting to compare that to Jason Roberts' average. I've no doubt that Roberts' would be better overall, but take the past five years' average and I don't think you'd see too much difference. Depends how Carlton Cole would be used for us though.

Still can't see it happening, mind you.

It sounds like our interest in Carlton Cole hasn't gone away. West Ham fans seem to think he could come here in the summer if Andy Carroll joins them permanently. If so, then he would be direct replacement for Pogrebnyak who will leave this summer. One of the delays in his contract was rumoured to be that he wanted a release clause inserted if we went down. I don't know if he got it, but we were trying to negotiate that he stayed until the following January transfer winder at least. I think he'll go in the summer.

Well with it looking more likely that Roberts will hang up his boots at the end of this season due to injuries and with Pog probably leaving, I see this as a great replacement. Could definitely do a good job in the Championship.

Poor goalscoring record and frequently goes missing - very overrated player. No thanks.

We've always made a point of picking up talented players who have failed elsewhere and who are hungry to succeed.

I think he fails on the final point.

Said it in another post somewhere and I'll say it again. Don't sell Pog just because a minority don't like the way he does his thing. He has shown in glimpses that he (the Pog) can do a job. In the Premiershop he was bullied, next season will be different, he'll get more protection for refs. As for Cole - no thank you, he isn't that good. He has been poor this season for the Shammers and I don't think we need someone who doesn't have hunger for the game. Someone else has said here (not pointing fingers), that Cole would be better than Pog, sorry don't agree.

We shouldn't sell Pog for any reasons like that.

We should sell him (or in reality let him leave, if we can find anyone prepared to pay him what he wants) simply because his wage levels are unrealistic for a Championship club, even one with parachute payments.

Granted, but if AZ said a while ago he would pick up the tab for the Pog's wages, is that not worth a punt? AZ seems to have his head in the right place (I'll happily retract this statement, if he does a runner). But, if he were not to agree with this, then we should let the Pog go, it would just a be a shame imho.

Certainly not the worst option in the world but would prefer a player on their way up rather than one on their way down

why do we have to deal with this rumor every transfer window? he isnt good enough for us, imo! we can get much better than him.

He'd be better than any of the rest of our strikers. Tbf, this isn't necessarily the ringing endorsement that it sounds.

Agreed that it is a consistent rumour though, one mainly dreamed up by mentalists on here. File next to players continually linked with a move to Reading, Joey Becuchamp, Darren Powell.....

If we lose Pog, then maybe a good option to have. However still think he will be useful at PL level especially for the likes of Hull, Cardiff and whoever goes up. Would not be surprised if one of these sides take a gamble on him.

I think he could be perfect to play the lone striker role.
