LoyalRoyalFan Apparently Palace want £6m for Zaha.

No chance.

That's a lot considering a proven prem player like Sinclair went for £6.2.

I'm not sure which I am more concerned about.

Us not looking at signing anyone
Or
Some of the players that our likely relegation rivals are bringing in.

This 100%. We're a good *team* but we're still 4 short of real quality.

Im thinking a couple of quality signings would strengthen the team enough at this stage

Ok, I think if we were to sign anyone it would have been done by now, I'm just kidding myself by repeatedly checking this forum...

The number of quality signings is irrelevant, more so the positions you feel need strengthening.

Surely we could take Sig from Spurs for a loan, he must be behind Moutinho and Dembele in the CAM position (only because of the transfer fees involved that they cant leave those two players out, dont personally think they are a lot better than Gylfi.)

Who were the last players we signed on deadline day? Ian Harte and Zurab Khizanishvilli.

Great bit of business that turned out to be

EDIT: Last year I was at my sisters wedding and couldn't check our new signings until after the window had shut, got back to Spain to see we had signed Le Fondre, Mills, and Gorkss at some point in those two weeks, not sure if any were on deadline day though.

The latter didn't end too well.

Nail. Head.

Before the season begun I was comfortable as we look competitive with other teams expected to be in the bottom half. Now however:

Swansea - Off to a flyer and breaking their transfer record with new signings
West Brom - Good start showing real quality, better than us
West Ham - Lots of signings and, as I rate Andy Carroll, lots of goals
QPR - Buying a few big names doesn't make you good, buying a whole team of big names definitely makes you better than 18th
Sunderland - Adam Johnson is quality, Fletcher scores goals, even Danny Rose is an advancement from Nicky Shorey
Fulham - Sufficiently replaced Dempsey and gone one step further, I don't care what anyone thinks of lazy Bulgarians, they score goals.
Stoke - McDermott said was could compete with an established Premier League side. What about all these sides that now have additional quality players?

As it goes, there are more teams as bad as us than I thought, being:

Norwich
Southampton
Aston Villa
Wigan

However, 3 from 5 to go down isn't good odds in my book. Even Owen and some random defender with EPL experience would make me more confident we can compete. For now, I'm worried.

Agreed but don't think we would have made it to the play offs without him, he was immense. But yes he did bottle it when it mattered as did Andy Griffin who was also a very good player for us for a season and a half.

I don't think we are that weak frankly. Teams buying today are aware theyre not good enough at present. Southampton are a league one side with two or three good players, qpr are a shambles with a team spirit built on constantly replacing all their players. Stoke and Sunderland have bought decent players but pog and guthrie are up there with what they have got and frankly norwich and villa look very weak. Swans look like they've done some brilliant business but will those imports collapse in decembers cold?

But that's on paper. Footballs 75% team spirit, belief and commitment. That's where we succeeded under Coppell last time, and that's also why we eventually went down. Id be more worried if bendner, berbatov and Rob green rocked up that if we don't add anyone!

Not sure about the 75% bit. I'm not sure the premier league champions had the best of team spirit last year, apart from a Mario house party.
