OS featuring players already signed today. No plug for text service. I reckon our business is done, but hope not. Come on Hampster and Anton - go get Zaha

Well, while happy with the signings we've made up to this point, let's hope we have enough as the rest of the league goes about making sure they each have enough. I know it can't be about not having the money to improve the squad so it must be ideological...

There is always January to make any needed corrections provided that if we find ourselves in that position, and of course that the hole we're in, again if we find ourselves there, isn't too deep to get out of.

cmonurz Spending money is a reality of being in this league. That was my point. We got here before and, imho, threw it away for lack of investment.

One day, one transfer window, we will HAVE to be the club that pays a few million each for some quality players – that is if we genuinely want to establish ourselves in this league.

Yeah, Powell might be great, but his potential signing (that does appear to just be rumours) gets a massive *shrug* from me, not exciting at all.

The players I want to see coming in are the likes of Rhodes and Zaha – quality young players who will cost us a bit, but are coveted by a number of clubs. And we look at the player, and the cost, and those other clubs and we say ‘no, we want him at Reading’, and we do what we have to do to secure his signature.

That’s not throwing millions away, it’s investing in this league and our future.

It's almost like a nicely written TheSiege post.

Not when we have backup players like Hunt, Church, Tabb, Gunnarsson to rely on. That really shows how lightweight we are for cover.

Agreed.
Anyone would think that we have made a cracking start like Swansea and scored 8 and conceded 0.
We have picked up one point from a team with one of the worst away records in the league-a team that has now gone out and bought 2 or 3 players because they think 1 point against Reading isn't good enough.
I am very pleased with how the new signings have settled in-it's the existing ones that worry me-and,like cmonurz,I would like to see two or three more (in keeping with Anton's statement that we will compete at this level)brought in to improve the squad.
The idea that because we were slow starters last season but improved significantly we will do the same this season is an unfounded and desperately optimistic view to take and remember it was the signing of Roberts that crystallised that improvement.

Still, 6 hours and a bit to go so maybe some stupid club will come in for Church and HRK and the club will feel that a replacement or two are needed.

Trouble is by January if were down at the bottom it will be even harder to sign players and there prices will go up more than they would be now

Id rather we bought now and be in a better position by January

To be honest i dont think are squad is strong enough now to survive

Apparently Palace want £6m for Zaha.

No chance.
