RUMOUR - Matthew Kilgallon

by LoyalRoyalFan » 27 Apr 2013 14:15

Sky Sports understands a number of clubs are keeping tabs on Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon.

Kilgallon is out of contract this summer and as yet no new deal has been agreed at the Stadium of Light.

The news has alerted Kilgallon's suitors to his possible availability on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old started Paolo Di Canio's first game in charge against Chelsea, but has not played in the last two matches against Newcastle and Everton.

Kilgallon started his career at Leeds before joining Sheffield United in 2009 and, after a hugely impressive one-year spell at Bramall Lane, he was snapped up by Sunderland in in January 2010

The left-sided central defender has a wealth of Premier League experience and clubs are actively monitoring his contract situation.

The likes of Leeds, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Reading are all thought to be tracking Kilgallon as they look to bolster their defensive options next season.

Yes please. Leeds might suit him for location as well as the obvious biggest club in the world status.

Pearce will be gone and Kilgallon better than most we'd get from other Championship teams.

I'd rather have Mariappa and Morrison.

Was impressed with him when he played for Sheffield United, I wouldn't grumble at signing him. We are definitely going to need to bring in another central defender.

You're not taking into consideration Pearce leaving and most likely Gorkss too...

I am taking them into consideration, I've already stated I'd rather have Mariappa and Morrison and I don't think Kilgallon would come here to be on the bench. If he stays fit he IS a decent defender and I didn't say I wouldn't want him here I just prefer the others.

Not the first time we've been linked with but a lot of the time when things re-appear its just old info reappearing from when it was true and now actually isn't true at all

Please no !

If this is the sort of signing we are going to make for next season-it indicates a complete lack of ambition and planning.

After Gorkss AWOL performance for Wolves today, I hope he will not be back.

Made Mariappa's positional and marking play look sublime!

Fine with this as a signing, excellent Championship defender.

I think he's used a technique called 'double negative'

As others have said, Morrison / Mariappa as first choice pairing for me next year. Suspect we might end up with Gorkks back here for a bit, can't see him at Wolves if they go down. We've also got Hector, for whom next season is surely the one he needs to break into the squad, or go...

Released by Sunderland. He'd do as Pearce's replacement.

Was he one of the 'unprofessional' Sunderland players who incurred the wrath of Di Canio for being out on the town when Di Canio felt they should have been at home?

Yes - he was the one that went to the casino with Phil Bardsley after some of the squad watched the Arsenal/Wigan game.
