The inevitable Karacan to Galatasaray thread

by Badger Finger » 30 May 2013 13:32

From the BBC Sportsday live:

1240:
FOOTBALL
Galatasaray are eyeing up Manchester United's Nani, 26, and Reading's Jem Karacan, 24, for a possible move to the Turkey to bolster their midfield. Representatives from the club are currently in UK to make inquiries about the players, according to Turkey's Millyet newspaper. Fulham's Kerim Frei, 19, is also under consideration, according to Hurriyet.

A return? Erm...

Would the club stop him if this were true? Would we demand a massive transfer fee of 2 track suits and a bag of mitre footballs?

Still. Karacan and Drogba in the same team would raise some lols. Karacan playing Champions league football more so...

He's already played down the link this window....

Plus, he was starting to look back to his best at times under Adkins.

I think he will give it a year or two and if we aren't promoted he will go if they are still interested

Apparently Turkey's Bullshiyet newspaper said this wasn't true

If we get a decent fee I wouldn't lose too much sleep. If he's still a Reading player in September I'd be happy, he seems like he wants to be here and finished the season well.

Can't see this happening for the simple reason that Galatasaray probably employ scouts.

Cafe owner across from work is a big Gala fan. He told me a few weeks ago that they were interested in Karacan and Frei. Obviously he knows as much/little about Gala's transfer plans as we do about Reading's, but an interesting and I believe valid point he made is that there are new rules coming in to the Turkish league restricting foreigners so clubs are looking to bring in players with Turkish passports/citizenship etc.

Just seen Jonathan lows Get Reading post suggesting 'they're closing in on Karacan' but he stated he'd be likely to fetch a million. I'd be disgusted if this happened imho... A good passer and looked a lot better under adkins surely worth way more than a million? Anton stating we dont need to sell then us selling one of our best centre mids for a million is surely defeating the object?

Until he leaves at which point he'll be "No great loss" and "he doesn't fit our new super duper style anyway".

ClubCall
Gala poised to make Jem swoop
Turkish giants Galatasaray are closing in on the £1million capture of Reading midfielder Jem Karacan. Well-placed reports suggest the Royals have already held initial talks with Galatasaray officials and are keen on signing the 24-year-old over the close season. Karacan is weighing up his future following relegation down to the Championship and is open to a move to Turkey as he fancies trying to force his way into the national side over there, for whom he qualifies for through his father. Champions League quarter-finalists Gala have just wrapped up a record 19th league title in Turkey and see Karacan as an ideal low-cost signing. Reading manager Nigel Adkins is well aware several of his first-team squad will leave this summer and he could well be prepared to let Karacan go with the likes of Mikele Leigertwood, Hope Akpan, Danny Guthrie and Jobi McAnuff all also capable of playing in central midfield.

£1m? Surely we should be getting more than that!

Has no one considered the possibility that this deal was drawn up ages ago when we confirmed Galatasaray as a ‘partner’?

Wouldn’t surprise me at all & explains the tiny price tag.
