Reading to become parent club for Crewe

by Reading4eva » 23 Oct 2013 20:41

I understand that Reading are set to become a parent club of Crewe Alexandra. This will allow Readings youth players to be loaned to Crewe without cost to the Cheshire club. Likewise Reading will be able to take first option on any players Crewe are set to sell.

I understand this has been born out of Adkins roots

My only knowledge of Crewe is that I=I always made them my feeder club on FM a couple of years back as they (in the game) had better facilities and youth recruitment than most championship teams.. Is this where you are getting your knowledge?

I hope this is true and you are not just pulling our pissers. It would be an excellent move for the development of our youth and Crewe have proven over many years, that they are very good at developing excellent young players.

Our youngster would get more football league exposure, quickening their development and learning first hand what it means to play a proper hard fought, competitive game of football, rather than just the academy games.

Personally, I will have my fingers crossed. It would turn out to more useful than what the Galatasary link has done so far.

Seems unlikely.
The bit about us loaning them players at no cost would (I think ) be in breach of league rules as iirc the receiving club must pay a % of wages.
Us having first option on players also seems unlikely. How would a fee be arrived at ? If we offer 50p and Barcelona offer £1 do we get the player ? You cannot force a player to move so even if this option existed players may simply decline to come.
Finally why would we partner with a club so far away ? If a Spurs/Swindon type informal arrangement were possible wouldn't you go for a club close enough that you could easily monitor players, allow them to still train here, use ours medical facilities etc.
If we want to join up with a club with a good record of producing youngsters I'd pick a more local side and become Southampton 's parent.

This is bollocks unless, of course, Crewe have broken off their feeder relationship with Manchester United. By Adkin's roots, can we assume he uses the same hair dye as Dario Gradi?

And anyway, that stand at Gresty Rd isn't that big, it's just the rest of the ground is very, very small.

Parent clubs can loan players for no fee, it's part of the deal between the two clubs.

Massive because the rest of the ground is tiny, only. It's a standard sized stand in terms of height.
