Before you all bang the wrong drum loudly here is a comparison of Jason Roberts, Kevin Doyle, Shane Long and Anichebe in the Prem

43 Goals - 22 Assists 206 - Apps 11,801 - Mins 274 - mins/goal 182 - mins/goalorassist Shane Long Prem
24 Goals - 17 Assists 186 - Apps 08,310 - Mins 346 - mins/goal 203 - mins/goalorassist Anichebe Prem
37 Goals - 19 Assists 164 - Apps 12,930 - Mins 349 - mins/goal 231 - mins/goalorassist Kevin Doyle Prem
36 Goals - 21 Assists 221 - Apps 14,451 - Mins 401 - mins/goal 254 - mins/goalorassist Roberts Prem

So Anichebe's Premiership record is better than Doyle's and FAR better than Jason Roberts

Here's Long-Doyle-Roberts comparing their Prem and Champ numbers

36 Goals - 21 Assists - 221 Apps - 14,451 Mins - 401 mins/goal - 254 mins/goalorassist - Roberts Prem
27 Goals - 13 Assists - 062 Apps - 0,5421 Mins - 201 mins/goal - 136 mins/goalorassist - Roberts Champ

37 Goals - 19 Assists - 164 Apps - 12,930 Mins - 349 mins/goal - 231 mins/goalorassist - Kevin Doyle Prem
48 Goals - 12 Assists - 143 Apps - 11,372 Mins - 237 mins/goal - 190 mins/goalorassist - Kevin Doyle Champ

43 Goals - 22 Assists - 206 Apps - 11,801 Mins - 274 mins/goal - 182 mins/goalorassist - Shane Long Prem
39 Goals - 26 Assists - 123 Apps - 07,501 Mins - 192 mins/goal - 115 mins/goalorassist - Shane Long Champ

So Roberts was almost twice as prolific when he dropped a league, Doyle 33% better in the Champ, ditto Long

Roberts was an ageing player. Anichebe is only just 28

Not saying he WILL, but Anichebe, if fit, coming into his prime years, could easily get 20 goals in the Champ (for someone else).

Of course he has to be injury free and motivated

BTW when talking about his ten years in the Prem, remember he had a horrendous injury that he sued over (and won) that kept him out for almost a year, remember Everton twice extended his contract, that he won Young Player of the Year, that he has an Olympic Silver medal.

He averaged a goal every 279 minutes for Everton, one every 317 minutes in the Prem

24 Goals - 17 Assists - 186 Apps - 8310 Mins - 346 mins/goal - 203 mins/goalorassist - Anichebe
11 Goals - 00 Assists - 041 Apps - 2962 Mins - 269 mins/goal - 269 mins/goalorassist - Pavel Pogrebnyak
19 Goals - 06 Assists - 065 Apps - 4714 Mins - 248 mins/goal - 189 mins/goalorassist - Pavel Pogrebnyak

Dog wasn't much different Championship v Premiership for Goals (20 mins per goal better)
and over a season of 46 * 90 minute games would mean a difference of 1-2 goals

But interesting he never had an assist in the Prem, but six in the Championship. 189 v 269

His goals-minutes ratio is better but remember in his very few Prem games with Fulham he had an early hat-trick

Goals-with-assists Anichebe's Prem record is better

If he's anything like the Pog, I'm instantly IN.

How much would the Pog be to buy back?

UpNorth In his best season he managed just six goals - no thanks

He's only ever played in the Premier League so his experience could be valuable, could tear up the Championship as well with the right team around him.

Last player we had that people were confidently predicting would tear up the Championship was Pog. So... I'm out.

Actually, Kermorgant. Still, same result.

First, Kermie was expected to do OK based on his CHAMPIONSHIP record while playing for BMTH and helping them win promotion

Second, all his results have been as a NUMBER TEN, not being the target lump, Number 9

Victor, so bad that even Nicky Hammond could see that going on a free was the best option.

Sorry but I was never foolish enough to predict that Pog would tear up the Championship.

Anichebe is a way better player.

Absolutely pointless post seeing as you're talking about the Premier League and he would be coming to play for us in the Championship

No it's not, he goes on to compare the other players' championship records to their time in the premier league. You can extrapolate a rough performance indicator for strikers who played in both divisions. The sample size is too small to take much from it, but the process makes sense and is relevant.

I oxf*rd hope you're not a data analyst for a living. A circus clown would be a better line of work if you are.

In the past I posted the stats of about a dozen players either moving up to the Prem
or dropping down from the Prem to the Championship

I forget off hand but I'm pretty sure the average was that a player getting 10 in the Prem
got 20 in the Champ and vice versa

Remember also that many players dropping down are past their sell-by date, ageing, possibly injured

Shane Long in his last Champ season for 25 goals and 20 assists in 52 appearances (4411 minutes)

That is 176 minutes per goal and about 99 mins per goal or assist

Since he left us his stats are 9.2 goals a season average excluding internationals

13 goals 06 assists 02,374 minutes 183 mins/goal 1 International goals 14 2015-16
07 goals 07 assists 02,177 minutes 311 mins/goal 3 International goals 10 2014-15
07 goals 03 assists 02,420 minutes 346 mins/goal 1 International goals 08 2013-14
11 goals 05 assists 02,350 minutes 214 mins/goal 2 International goals 13 2012-13
08 goals 02 assists 02,284 minutes 286 mins/goal 2 International goals10 2011-12

46 goals 23 assists 11,605 minutes 252 mins/goal 55 goals incl internationals

It would be more than reasonable to believe Shane would get 25+ if he dropped to the Championship, so in his case the ratio is 2.5 to one.

That isn't saying it's 2.5 times easier. Note he played about twice the minutes in the Championship (4,411 v 2,320)

Way is more pertinent is the goals per minute and goals+assists per minute.

It's a no-brainer to say that it's easier to score goals in the Championship. Jason Roberts showed us that, so did Murray

I'm not particularly disagreeing on this occasion, but you don't help yourself with your track record snowball. You've claimed that Long's one good Championship season would make him a 10 goal a season PL player, which he's just achieved (barely) in the last season at the fourth attempt.

PL goalscoring stats are not a particularly good indicator of how someone will do in the Championship. Particularly distinctly average goalscoring stats. You're also well known for cherry picking your sample. To provide any convincing data you'd need a massive selection of players picked without bias. Not your confirmation bias half a dozen or so.

This old chestnut? What you're saying is a total misrepresentation of what happened,

SEASONS BEFORE Shane came good I said he would come good and I said he would be

A ten-goal-a-season Premiership player
or
A 20-goal-a-season Championship player
or
A 30-goal-a-season League 1 player

I was proven right the season he scored 25 for us (excluding International goals) and he has averaged 9.2 goals a season (excluding international goals) despite being out with a serious injury

I did NOT make predictions of Shane's premiership career based on his one top season with us. I made my predictions when 90% of this boards was saying he was utter rubbish (and some said "not a footballer")

How can you say "
PL goalscoring stats are not a particularly good indicator of how someone will do in the Championship. Particularly distinctly average goalscoring stats."

with zero actual evidence to back up your "plucked out of the air" statement?

And how is it biased sampling to choose READING players? You're being ridiculous (again).

Actually, I rather liked that one from Snowball. It's not 'proof' by any stretch of the imagination but its a good indicator that a) Anichebe isn't that bad and b) comparable players have done much better in the Championship. Hence, he might be a good signing for a Championship side.
