EURO 2016 PAYMENT TO RFC

by bluerinse » 23 Jun 2016 14:16

Had a conversation yesterday with someone who said the club are to get a windfall from the EUR 2016 Tournament.
Apparently each club who have a squad player who represents their country at the tournament, will receive 7000 euros a day for each player whilst their country is still in the tournament.
The payments start 14 days prior the tournament start date of 10/6/16, so assuming Gunter, Norwood, Quinn and Robson Kanu (he is still a RFC player until 30/6/16) stay in the tournament until say 26/6/16, a total of 31 days (26/5/16 - 26/6/16) payment is due.
This works out at 31 days X 7000 euros X 4 players = 868000 euros which is approx. £633640.
Has anyone any knowledge/ background to payments made by UEFA to clubs who participate, as this is quite a considerable sum of money coming to the club.

Sounds like bollocks to me if that were the case they would be bankrupt. How many players are in the tournament? 800k for 4 players so 200 k per player, times that by the number of players you would into the hundreds of millions....

At 200k per player, with 552 players at the tournament, you're looking at £110m

Would imagine the only payments to clubs would be from the FAs of the countries that a club's players play for to cover insurance and other sundry overheads. As has been stated above I can't see UEFA forking out 100 million Euros or whatever it would be over and above the prize money that would already be on offer.

Unless it's only clubs in England or clubs with players in the UK squads?!

True stuff, this. Not sure on the exact figures for 2016 but those quoted would sound about right going by the first instance of this in 2008 and the rise in 2012 - see THIS LINK for more detail.

The Daily Telegraph, in 2008, The compensation works out at almost £3,500 per player per day. Uefa will pay clubs £48 million at a rate of £4,350 per player per day at the next Euro tournament, to be played in Poland and Ukraine in 2012.

With football worth even more money these days, £7,000 a day sounds believeable and with extra teams and extra revenues made, £110m wouldn't be that crazy a figure for them to pay out.

I look forward to Dave telling me I'm wrong...

£115m* in total in the pot,
£37m for players used in qualifying, £78m for those in squad for finals
windfall indeed.

*possibly depends on £to€ rate

In my original post of 16/8/2015 I said that the club were likely to receive £633640 from UEFA for RFC players who were involved in EURO2016.
It has been announced today that RFC have received a windfall of £1.178.229.36.
This is much better than I anticipated, so will much appreciated, and go a long way in paying for the new arrivals.

Why is this in R & G?

Anyway....from quick glance RFC highest earners in Champ. Seem to remember a bet365 tweet saying we had more players @ the Euros than AC Milan.

More £ from this than Wet Sham and a few of the other Prem also rans.

It covers a 2 year period, and although the season had ended players either missed rest or preseason and risked injury.
If McShane had broken a leg or Gunter had done a cruciate we would have had to spend much more to replace them...
