The club are interested but, as suggested, need to check out how he is medically and with regard to remuneration.

I would have thought the logical step would be to ask Betis if they would be agreeable to us taking him on trial.

On a Dutch footballsite it says that van der Vaart called Stam if he was interested in signing him. Stam and vdv know each other well from the national squad. Stam told vdv that they are thinking about it, being unsure if vdv can still play with his injuries.

Stam stated vdv is still a quality signing though.

Reading reactions on Dutch sites the majority think he's past it.
It would be good PR for Reading for him to sign but I think it's more about broadcasting his name to see who else reacts since Betis don't want him anymore.

For me, if it's sensible wages, then its a no brainer. Regardless of how far he's fallen he still oozes talent and I can only imagine he would be a fantastic person to have in the squad. None of our lot would have really played with someone of his caliber and he could teach so much.

I am very excited at the prospect of our rivals being envious and Van der Vaart turning in even a few appearances for the mighty hoops.

It's a shame Stam calls out VDV's history of injuries; that's hardly going to sway the bean counters decision.
